This is a part time afternoon-evening position with some weekend requirements. Specific hours/days of week open for discussion.

Performs cardiac ultrasound examinations as ordered by physicians and synthesizes information related to the patients' medical problems,

Job Description:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.    Performs M-mode, two dimensional, spectral and color Doppler, stress and TEE echocardiograms according to the established departmental protocol and modifies as needed by patient variability; queries each patient or reviews each order or on line medical record for pertinent history. Communicates with reading physicians regarding all echocardiogram findings.
2.    Assists with determining priority for requested studies and revises schedule as needed to perform urgent outpatient and emergency inpatient studies; recognizes important and life threatening abnormalities on the echocardiogram and calls them to the immediate attention of the director or physicians.
3.    Assists in patient billing by logging studies on computer with appropriate demographics, attending doctors, referral questions and billing codes.
4.    Assists in training new echocardiography staff and in adapting new techniques to the protocol; instructs techniques of echocardiography performance, utilization and interpretation to new colleagues.
5.    Generates studies in digital format with all protocol specified measurements, utilizing Mmode, two-dimensional and Doppler modes, submitting each study ready for physician analysis.
6.    Monitors supply inventory and notifies supervisor to re-order; maintains equipment in clean, running order and notifies supervisor if equipment repair is warranted.
7.    Stocks exam rooms with supplies and maintains supply room in accordance with hospital compliance requirements.
8.    Resolves patient scheduling issues by working with appropriate providers and staff. Assists with scheduling patients if required. Assists department with emergency re-scheduling due to equipment down time or other events.
9.    Completes procedures in timely fashion while providing the highest quality scans.
10.    Prepares patient for exams as required and insures patient comfort and modesty at all times.
11.    Performs patient centered customer service and ensures the following standards are met appropriately and achieved. Communicates patient complaints professionally and directs them to a supervisor if unable to resolve. Ensures HIPAA compliance at all times and understands that all patient information is accessed on a need to know basis. Keeps discussions around patients to a minimum and ensures that patients are not subjected to departmental conversations, private conversations and/or any inappropriate behavior. Handles telephone calls and requests for services both professionally and appropriately in accordance with hospital telephone etiquette requirements and AIDET standards.
12.    Responds to patient's and/or patient's family's complaints in a courteous, appropriate and effective manner. Serves as patients and families advocate.
13.    Maintains current registrations, certifications, continuing education requirements and competencies appropriately and timely. Complies on a timely basis in completing hospital mandatory education and/or training.
14.    Works hours as regularly scheduled or according to the operational needs of the Echocardiography Department,
15.    Treats patients and fellow staff with dignity and respect.
16.    Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures.
17.    Employee maintains competencies (position specific and hospital-wide) required for the specific patient population served.
18.    Performs all duties in accordance with safety and other laws, rules, and regulations as set forth by appropriate licensing, credentialing, regulatory and government agencies and in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures.
19.    May be required to perform similar or related duties as may be necessary on an emergency basis or as designated by the department director/manager or supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

  • Requires Associate Degree in Science/Cardiac Sonography or certificate in cardiac sonography.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS•.

  • Active ARDMS RDCS registration required.

  • BLS/CPR Certification required,

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

  • 2-3 years' experience required.

  • Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathology either through college level courses in biology and anatomy and/or relevant acquired experience.

OTHER SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

  • Ability to rely on experience, judgment and time management skills to plan and accomplish goals.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with members of the healthcare delivery team and staff, ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule; to set priorities and solve problems; to respond quickly to emergency requests.
