The Special Care Nursery (SCN) is a twelve-bed level IIB unit that provides care for high risk newborns who were born prematurely or with medical complications. Patients in the SCN include both infants born at Beverly Hospital and transfers in following treatment at tertiary care facilities.
The SCN Registered Nurses and Board Certified Neonatologists provide care for infants 32 weeks gestation or greater who require the following clinical care: frequent observation; cardiorespiratory monitoring; oxygen therapy; intravenous hydration and medications; gavage feedings blood transfusions and/or exchange transfusions. For infants born less than 32 weeks gestation, nursing will work in conjunction with the medical team to stabilize and transport these neonates to the appropriate tertiary care facility.
As a Registered Nurse (RN) for our Special Care Nursery, you will be responsible for the following:
- Complete assessments, administer medications/treatments, observes patient’s progress and evaluates therapies for clinical outcomes and effectiveness
- Collaborate with physicians and other medical professionals to develop an optimal health care strategy plan for each patient
- Support and educate patients and their loved ones to achieve maximum outcomes
- Perform venipuncture and place intravenous catheters as needed
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required
- New hires with current SCN experience must hold an active NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) card. For new hires without relevant experience, colleagues must obtain NRP certification within 6 months of hire.
- Current high risk neonatal care preferred
