Job Summary: The PGY2 resident is a registered pharmacist pursuing a second one-year post-graduate experience in acute care clinical practice. Provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care through integrated drug distribution, clinical services and teaching. Provides services consistent with other services provided by pharmacists at BIDMC and additional clinical services aligned with the specialty residency. The residency training program is jointly supported by the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences University (MCPHS University) and BIDMC.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. The resident performs the duties of a clinical pharmacist in accordance with the Clinical Pharmacist job description (see Job Code A1915)
  2. Perform duties defined in the associated specialty's BIDMC PGY2 Residency Program Manual to meet the Standards defined by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists. These duties will support that the resident achieves an advanced degree of proficiency and expertise in:Patient Care; Leadership and Management; Medication Utilization; Teaching, Education, and Dissemination of Knowledge.
Required Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or PharmD required.
  2. License Pharmacist required.
  3. 0-1 years related work experience required.
  4. Completion and certificate from an accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program
  5. Licensed Pharmacist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; or eligible for licensure (reciprocity or examination) on initiation of the program and then licensed within 90 days from the start of the residency.
  6. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Acute care and specialty rotations during PGY1 training and Advance Practice Educational experiences.
Competencies:
  1. Decision Making: Ability to make decisions that are guided by general instructions and practices requiring some interpretation. May make recommendations for solving problems of moderate complexity and importance.
  2. Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are varied, requiring analysis or interpretation of the situation using direct observation, knowledge and skills based on general precedents.
  3. Independence of Action: Ability to follow precedents and procedures. May set priorities and organize work within general guidelines. Seeks assistance when confronted with difficult and/or unpredictable situations. Work progress is monitored by supervisor/manager.
  4. Written Communications: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers.
  5. Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
  6. Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.
  7. Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.
  8. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
Age based Competencies:
Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Neonatal:Birth to 6 months, Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 years, Elderly: 60 -.
Physical Nature of the Job:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus
