The Senior ECG Tech position is an opportunity to work at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA. This is a full-time 40hr position.

$4,000.00 Bonus Eligible:

- Sign on bonuses are paid out in three payments. You will receive your first payment (one third of the total amount) within the first 30 days of employment and is subject to applicable taxes. You will receive the second payment at six (6) months and the third payment (final third of total amount) one year following your start date and all payments subject to applicable taxes.

- Full time status at BIDMC is considered for schedules greater than or equal to 30 hours per week; part time status is 20 to 29 hours per week. Please note, per diem employees are not eligible for sign-on bonuses.

- Current and Former BILH candidates - restrictions apply. BIDMC Internal employees or employees within the BILH system are not eligible for the bonus or if you have been employed by a BILH entity within the last 12 months.

- Please note, sign on bonuses are subject to change based on the organization’s hiring needs and will be determined by Talent Acquisition on an ongoing basis. BILH/BIDMC Talent Acquisition reserves the right to change sign on bonus eligible jobs and amounts at any time.

Job Description:

The Senior ECG Technician is responsible for the day to day operations of the lab. They must utilize their knowledge and skills to perform electrocardiograms for the purpose of providing diagnostic data on all patients who are pre-operative, symptomatic and/or have suspected infarction, drug toxicity or rhythm disturbance He or She is integral to daily operation of the GE Muse Data Management System, comprised of incoming ECGs from  # 120 carts from # 79 various locations. 

This Technician supports all inpatient and outpatient areas, exhibits exemplary customer service skills and can work seamlessly with the team under stressful conditions.

Responsibilities:

  • Advanced ECG interpretation skills, and can identify critical values (such as indications of an acute infarct, ventricular and supraventricular tachycardia, rapid atrial fibrillation, 2nd and 3rd degree AV block, profound bradycardia or pauses) and bring them to the immediate attention of a patient care provider. Can identify limb lead errors and will notify the floor when a repeat is indicated.

  • Understands the various forms/causes of artifact and how to correct each. Perform high quality ECG's in a variety of settings, utilizing precise lead placement and troubleshooting skills in both routine and emergent situations and must be fluent in all lead placements; standard, pedi/neonatal, right-sided leads for suspected inferior wall infarct, posterior leads for suspected posterior infarct.

  • Mastery of the GE Muse Data Management System: is able to look up ECG's, pull up orders, determine locations/room numbers for orders, triage ECG's from ED/Urgent Care and in-patient locations. Corrects miss-matches on ECG patient demographics and update files to Demo Editor Preset. Evaluates each incoming ECG for quality, eliminating duplicates, attaching orders, assessing for billing eligibility.

  • Orders lab supplies as needed maintaining par levels.

  • Performs first line troubleshooting for equipment. Technician is required to be fluent in the operation of the GE 5500 carts and Philips- Page Writer Tc70t . Keeps current with technology and fixes equipment within realm of knowledge. Seeks additional guidance from Clinical Manager/ clinical Engineering as needed.

  • Assists with processing long-term Ambulatory Cardiac Monitoring reports by reviewing daily tracings, notifying MD of significant findings, collecting data to create summary report for MD review, and insuring that final signed report gets into the patient's medical record. In addition, the ECG Lead/ Senior Technician insures that report tracings are available in the OMR via Muse or imported PDF.

  • Assigns appropriate stafff with daily work assignments. Ensures equal distribution of workload. Rotates assignments throughout the week. Oversees completion of assignments.

  • Acts in a leadership role to address minor performance issues related to completion of assignments. Serves as a resource for staff questions and concerns, and will bring issues to the attention of the Clinical Manager. He or She performs and oversees the precepting of new staff members and keeps the Clinical Manager apprised of any potential issues with staff, scheduling, equipment or workflow.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 1-3 years related work experience required.
  • Technician exam eligibility with willingness to prepare for and take credential examination- CRAT within an agreed upon time.
  • Minimum 2-3 years' experience as EKG Technician with the ability to interpret Cardiac Arrhythmias and successfully complete interdepartmental competency exam.
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CCI certificate for Certified Cardiographic Technician- CCT or Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician,- CRAT Prior experience with EG Muse system.
  • Current BLS-CPR training.

  • Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
  • Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.
  • Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.
  • Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Physical Requirements:

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move throughout the hospital campus.
