Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assists with the required processing of laboratory specimens including but not limited to verification of specimen identification,
    centrifugation, and pouring of aliquots.
  • Maintains specified equipment, instruments, and supplies.
  • Performs certain routine laboratory procedures, and operates specified laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Performs a variety of clerical and technical procedures to prepare specimens for processing, result review, and verification.
  • Answers phones, and provides test information over the phone.
  • Checks inventory of supplies, and notifies supervisor when ordering may be necessary.
  • Maintains work areas in a neat, clean, and orderly manner.
  • Operates computer for required applications.
  • Complies with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies; adheres to established hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Performs other similar or related duties as required or as directed in all sections, areas, and shifts.
  • Works closely with technical and clerical staff to maintain communication related to patient tests/processing.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with reading skills verified at ninth grade level or better.
  • Six months of laboratory experience preferred.
  • Must have good organizational skills.
  • Able to work independently on assigned tasks.
