Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities

  • Physician Assistant for an adult inpatient medical service.
  • Works in collaboration with the physicians to assess the physical needs of the patient and implement a plan of care.
  • Evaluates, interprets, and records results of tests (Laboratory, Radiology, etc.), and reports results to physicians.
  • Responds to telephone calls from patients, pharmacies, etc., to meet the patients' needs. Communicates examination results to patients by telephone and/or letter.
  • Coordinates and supervises the overall patient flow to ensure a smooth patient turnover. Provides patient and staff education.
  • Assists in developing education materials for patients.
  • Manages patient care activities in the absence of the primary physician. 8.Develops and participates in quality assurance activities.
  • Maintains accurate encounter forms for billing purposes. Provides diagnosis and treatment plan for insurance companies as requested.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree. Must also be a graduate of a Physician Assistant Program approved by the American Medical Association.
  • Must be licensed as a Physician Assistant in Massachusetts.
  • A certificate issued by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), may be required for certain departments.
  • If prescribing medications is included in clinical duties and privileges, Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration and federal DEA Controlled Substance Registration are required.
  • 1-2 years prior experience in a similar health care or inpatient hospital setting preferred.
  • Expert clinical judgment to function in an independent role.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to collaborate with patients, families, physicians, staff, and community health workers.
  • Ability to be self-directive and demonstrate initiative in addressing responsibilities of the position.
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal and written information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
  • Ability to utilize appropriate problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Must be able to maintain strict protocols of all confidential or sensitive information
