Virtual Care Patient Care Technician
Under the direction of the manager and//or designee, the Virtual Patient Care technician will provide continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients. The first line of action will be to verbally redirect the patient from engaging in any at risk behaviors. Next will be to summon the nursing and/or support staff if the patient requires assistance. Monitor staff will be knowledgeable and abide by patient and institutional confidentiality and related hospital policies. The tele video monitoring position supports the department and the Division of Nursing by optimizing patient safety and improving patient outcomes.

Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

1. Demonstrates understanding and proficiency of the use of the AvaSure software.

2. Maintains visual observation at all times. Verbally redirects patient over digital 2-way audio device that is in patient room.  Immediately summons the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance.

3. Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide the appropriate observation to the patient population requiring TeleSitter monitoring.

4. Capable of continuous monitoring of up to 16 patients at one time and remains alert at all times while on duty.

5. Ability to communicate effectively with patients using a microphone and a headset.

6. Ability to communicate with hospital staff and respond quickly to patient behavior changes.

7. Participates in report with on-coming monitor staff when arriving for shift, and upon completion of shift. Reviews pertinent information and behaviors. 

8. Provides patient with explanations as necessary but does not counsel or provide opinions.

9. Provides floor staff with information in a timely fashion when patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others. Participates in a collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues. Assures patient environment safety. Seeks assistance with removal of any potential safety hazard from room and reports findings to appropriate staff members.

10. Demonstrates safe work practice and attitude, follows safety rules, and works to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors.

11. Maintains patient dignity and privacy. Works collaboratively with leadership and care team members to maintain unit efficiency and patient care excellence.

12. Work practice reflects the philosophy, purpose, and policies of the BILH system and those of Mount Auburn Hospital

Required Qualifications

1. High school graduate or G.E.D with general knowledge of the hospital setting.

2. Previous experience in a hospital including mental health experience is preferred.

3. Previous direct patient care experience preferred.

4. Demonstrates sound judgment and critical thinking skills.

5. Demonstrates the ability to remain calm in crisis and emergency situations.

6. Must possess and demonstrate highly effective interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills Efficiency in multi-tasking and the ability to prioritize Willingness to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the department

7. Certification preferred (nursing assistant/medical assistant)

8. BLS required
