Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities

•    Under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities or Manager of Maintenance, performs all HVAC repairs and installations in the hospital, including the procurement of necessary permits on new installations and renovations.
•    Performs all preventive maintenance (PM’s) and emergency repairs on HVAC equipment & systems as required.
•    Performs all duties in accordance with safety and other laws, rules and regulations as set forth by appropriate regulatory and government agencies in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures.
•    May be required to work off shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime.  Performs similar or related duties as may be necessary on an emergency, temporary or limited basis as assigned.  Subject to on call.
•    Assists with annual regulatory submissions; DEP, GHG, Tier II, etc.
•    Maintain an adequate inventory of equipment and materials by contacting vendors for competitive pricing and availability.
•    Able to perform preventative maintenance functions on chillers, air handles, condensers.
•    Inspect the work of outside contractors to ensure compliance with regulations.
•    Determine acceptable quality of materials and/or equipment.
•    Needs to have strong work knowledge of other trades; HVAC, boilers, plumbing, carpentry and maintenance mechanic.
•    Performs one or more trades to include related maintenance of high and low pressure boiler systems.  
•    Acts as an Emergency Preparedness First Responder, as trained 
•    Conducts daily monitoring Rounds as required
•    Conducts utility shutdowns and re-starts as required/assigned
•    Responds to calls for service in a timely manner
•    Intervenes on the patient’s behalf as appropriate
•    Documents all activities according to healthcare organizational policy
•    Participates in department based management performance improvement activities
•    Participates in product evaluations
•    Interacts with Maintenance team on a daily basis
•    Demonstrates proficiency and knowledge in problem identification and solving activities
•    Role model for other healthcare organizational staff
•    Identifies learning opportunities required for licensure and/or annual re-education

Experience/Knowledge/skills required

•    At least 5+ years of experience as a licensed HVAC Tech.
•    Working knowledge of Engine Driven Chillers and Air handlers
•    Able to work with Computerized Building Automation Control Systems
•    Good communication and teaching skills
•    Capable of self-directed responsibilities and able to establish priorities 
•    Professional image
•    Collaborative relationships with members of the healthcare team
•    Customer service & Service excellence training/knowledge


Education Required

•    Working knowledge of HVAC regulations
•    Working knowledge of Joint Commission standards
•    Working knowledge of Federal & State regulatory agencies having jurisdiction 
•    English - 12th grade level


Registration/Certification

•    Current & valid Mass Engineer 3rd Class License
•    Current & valid Mass Refrigerant License
•    Able to obtain Mass Engineer In Charge Special License within 6 months of hire
