Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Prioritizes appropriate placement of all admissions and transfers, monitors room availability and turnover of beds.

  • Tracks and trends barriers to patient throughputflow. Makes recommendations and develops action plans to improve process and systems.

  • Leads the development, implementation and continual improvement of patient throughputflow process.

  • Monitors hospital census and notifies appropriate parties based on high capacity/code help policy.

  • Manages the admission process by maintaining updated bed availability and facility services at all times.

  • Monitors and analyzes patient flow data.

  • Identifies needs and searches out solutions.

  • Acts as a central contact for all bed management decisions.

  • Coordinates bed flow meetings and facilitatesattends daily huddle.

  • Implements tools and processes to enable a centralized information base.

  • Provide high level of customer service and customer satisfaction.

  • Works collaboratively with all levels of hospital personnel, physicians, nursing units, nurse leaders, admitting and physician offices to facilitate throughput of all patients.

  • Demonstrates flexibility and creativity in response to unexpected changes in work load.

  • Ability to resolve conflict including situations where there may be conflicting priorities.

  • Participates in professional development to assure competency in skills and knowledge.

  • Responsibility for the Float Pool staff, staff schedules, Kronos time and attendance, holds staff accountable for adhering to standards of practice and hospital policies, counsels’ staff, collaboration with unit-based educator, completes staff performance reviews.

  • Directly manages department staff and orients, trains, mentors, supervises and assesses competencies for all staff reporting to the Nursing Resource/Throughput Bed Flow Manager.

  • Responsibility of the Staffing office, assisting is scheduling and staffing, collection and analysis of staffing related data, oversees daily staffing process.

Education/Experience Required:

  • Current RN Licensure with 3-5 years of acute care experience

  • BSN

  • Demonstrated progressive leadership

Experience/Knowledge/Skills:

  • Critical Care/ Emergency Department experience preferred

  • Demonstrated progressive leadership preferred

  • Previous bed flow experience preferred

  • Meditech experience preferred

Registration/Certification:

  • AHA BLS required

Physical/Environmental Requirements

This job requires frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking and lifting over 10 lbs. There will be occasional need for climbing stairs, lifting in excess of 50 – 100 lbs and sitting. Constant use of hearing, sight and speech. Frequent use of smell and touch. Frequent keyboard and telephone use. Constant concentration and problem solving.
