Duties/Responsibilities

  • Cleans, stocks, and readies the department for care of patients.
  • Orders equipment and supplies; maintains par levels of supplies
  • Maintains equipment and prepares for readiness.
  • Performs housekeeping duties as needed (i.e: emptying trash and linen; returning supplies).
  • Performs errands to other areas of the hospital.
  • Transports patients within the department and to in-hospital locations as needed.
  • Performs clinical functions, utilizes sterile technique when necessary, and obtains labs specimens, vital signs, and other tasks as needed.
  • Carries out tasks as directed by physicians, nurse director and nursing staff.
  • Maintenance of the medical records located on the nursing unit.
  • Unit receptionist responsibilities: telephone, visitor assistance, specimen delivery, phone calls, mail distribution.
  • Responsible for the performance of clerical duties on the nursing unit

Experience/Knowledge/Skills Required:

  • Current knowledge of medical terminology -must have taken and successfully completed a Medical Terminology Course within the past 2 years (or be able to pass a medical terminology competency equivalent to final exam of medical terminology course at time of interview).
  • Possesses organizational and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated communication skill, verbal and written
  • Ability to concentrate and prioritize in distracting environment
  • Ability to work at a quick pace with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to transcribe information & medication orders intoMeditechsystem accurately. PreviousMeditechexperience preferred.

Education Required:

  • High School graduate or equivalency or enrolled in a co-op program with successful completion of diploma within 6months.
  • Knowledge of basic patient care and technical procedures
  • Demonstrated computer skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and work pace consistent with working in a busy, acute care unit.  

Registration/Certification Required:

  • Current MA Certified Nurse Assistant License, EMT License, or current enrollment in a nursing program with sufficient hours of clinical rotation required.
  • Active American Heart AssociationBLS certification REQUIRED upon hire.
