Contribute to the Hospital’s mission by ensuring that all information necessary for proper financial reimbursement for patient care is collected and verified prior to the patient’s date of service. Works assigned work queues for claims that adversely affect claims being paid for both hospital billing and professional billing. Communicates any trends they identify with regards to errors being made or fields being left unfilled by staff members to support process improvement efforts throughout the revenue cycle process.

Job Description:

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Contacts insurance companies to discover what insurance was denied

  • Files appeals for denials

  • Communicates with hospital parties involved in the documentation to discover the reason for the lack of documentation or the need for additional documentation

  • Gathers all required data and contacts insurance companies to overturn the denial. 

  • Documents and tracks appeals

  • Ensure demographic and financial information is complete and verified

  • Verifies the guarantor type and information and ensures it is assigned to the account correctly. 

  • Verifies subscriber identification number is correct and corrects if needed

  • Tracks and communicate error trends

  • Ensure all possible insurance coverages are created and verified through electronic or manual methods and all discrepancies are resolved. 

  • Establishes working relationships with Case Management, Nursing, Access Call Center Authorization and Referral Team, and Hospital Billing Team 

  • Ensures all required key patient registration information is captured and verified. 

  • Identifies and communicates to Patient Access Management issues that are impacting the timeliness and accuracy of claims getting paid

  • Works with Case Management, outside providers, third party insurers, and any other individual or entity to assist in verifying the patient’s insurance eligibility

  • Obtains authorizations and referrals for hospital or professional accounts

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

  • Prior experience in a healthcare business setting processing and verifying electronic demographic, financial or other business-related information and data. (preferred)

  • Healthcare experience within registration of financial services required. (preferred)

  • Experience in Patient Access Services (preferred)

  • Epic experience (preferred)

Other Skills/Knowledge:

  • Able to work successfully in a fast-paced, multi-task environment, where some independent decision making is necessary. 

  • Able to process electronic information and data accurately and efficiently.
