Under the general supervision of the Executive Laboratory Director and in consultation with the AVP Laboratory Business Development, this position, both directly and through Phlebotomy/Processing Supervisor(s), oversees and manages the Winchester Hospital laboratory patient service centers, including the main hospital, off-site draw stations, rehab sites and the mobile phlebotomy service teams that are assigned to the Manager.

Job Description:

The Phlebotomy and Processing Services Manager provides administrative and management leadership, and is responsible for hiring staff, training staff, overseeing the staff training provided by others, ensuring staff compliance with policies and procedures, staff evaluations, staff disciplinary actions, competency assessments, staff development, regulatory compliance, and expense monitoring. The Manager contributes to the organization’s mission and vision by ensuring that the phlebotomy and processing sites for which the Manager is responsible are adequately staffed and trained and by ensuring that the staff provide high quality, effective, efficient, safe, timely, and patient-centered services. The Manager works independently and demonstrates advanced technical and administrative skills regarding the above functions.

Education Required

  • Associates Degree plus 3 years of work experience in phlebotomy including two (2) years managerial experience in health care.

  • At least five (5) years of experience in either an administrative capacity or at least four (4) years as a phlebotomist with at least one (1) year administrative experience in a clinical area in healthcare.


Education Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • At least three (3) years of experience managing phlebotomy staff and/or lab specimen processing staff.




Licensure, Certification, Registration

  • Phlebotomy Certification required or need to obtain within 1 year of hire.

  • ASCP certification preferred.




Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Experience in and/or proficiency in performing all of the functions that are required to be performed by his/her phlebotomy and lab processing staff
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation.
  • Proficiency in the use of hospital and lab information systems used by phlebotomy staff
  • Ability for strategic thinking, decision making, leadership and organizational planning.
