Under the direction of the Manager of Health Information Management, the Health Information Management Technician is responsible for processing all assigned requests for medical records in a timely and efficient manner. This position must always safeguard and protect the patient’s right to privacy by ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to the patient’s medical information and that all ROI requests follow the request authorization and healthcare facility policies as well as federal/state statutes, such as HIPAA.
Job Description:
- Handles release of information to all requestors, patients, health care providers, insurance companies, lawyers, etc., per hospital policy.
 - Ensures medical records are accurately filed in the permanent and incomplete files.
 - Pulls medical records when needed.
 - Ensures purging of the permanent medical records is done properly.
 - Ensures medical records are sent to the archival area when necessary.
 - Pulling medical records when needed
 - Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and standards related to health information management.
 - Monitor and prioritize filing medical record tasks to meet established deadlines and maintain productivity.
 - Maintain confidentiality and security of all patient information per HIPAA Guidelines.
 - Troubleshot any technical issues related to filing medical records.
 - Train and educate other team members on proper medical record filing procedures.
 - Performs other duties as required.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: HS diploma or equivalent
Experience:
- 5 years or more of experience
 - Epic experience desirable
 
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Knowledge of medical terminology
 - Knowledge of medical records content and management
 - Working knowledge of the EMR either through experience or education, including experience working with structured data and database management
 - Knowledge of laws and regulations about health information and patient confidentiality
 
Preferred Qualifications & Skills: Experience working in Health Information Management is preferred
Pay Range:
$19.00 – $25.57
The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
