Job Description:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Performs duties as a technical specialist in their areas of expertise. Precisely and accurately performs and evaluates a variety of technical procedures, acting as technical expert and resource technologist. Utilizes accepted quality control techniques with the aid of automated, semi-automated, and/or manual methodologies. Develops, revises, and implements technical procedures in area of expertise with assistance and approval of Supervisor or Manager. Oversees daily operations of the expertise area.
- Serves as a resource for assigned areas of expertise and provides technical support to staff. Assists in researching new tests, performs instrument evaluations, writes standard operating procedures, and maintains supplies for their areas of expertise. Resolve technical problems and troubleshoots when test systems are not within established levels of performance.
- Oversees, equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and reviews quality control for section. Maintains organized instrumentation logs to ensure accuracy of test results.
- Provides input into technical decisions, acts as expert for data collection and gathers monthly QC statistics for medical director/designee review. Oversees the lab section quality control program and ensures all CAP and manufacturer’s
- Demonstrates excellent skills at managing and directing workflow. Monitors the daily operations and delegation of duties within the lab. Re-allocates resources as needed.
- Trains Medical Technologist and Medical Lab Technologists. Participates in the development of training and competency procedures. Provide counsel to new employees and current employees delinquent in the completion of their competencies in the appropriate timeframe.
- Serves as a liaison between Lab Support Services and technical departments and provides timely communications and resolution of problems to clients outside of the lab.
- Works with employees to overcome difficulties, gives positive feedback when appropriate. Meets with employees on a formal basis as needed to address performance issues. Initiates new quality monitors, communicates to staff, encourages staff to continue to provide the highest quality patient care, works on continuous improvement of care.
- Works with Supervisor/Manager to make sure that department is adequately prepared for any inspections required. Reviews updated checklists, standards and guidelines as they are released. Makes and implements appropriate policy/ procedural revisions for regulatory compliance when needed. Provides organized updated revised responses. Works quickly and efficiently to address any self or external auditor deficiencies. Maintains all proficiency testing programs, provides corrective actions, reviews with staff.
- Oversees one or more continuous improvement programs and evaluates the result of these programs with the Supervisor/Manager. Programs must be instituted efficiently, thoroughly investigated, attention to detail is a must. Communication to staff regarding new initiatives is complete and thorough.
- Makes and oversees the daily work assignments to ensure coverage of the workload. Communicate with staff in meaningful way to provide efficient yet collegiate atmosphere. Assists with bench coverage as needed and staffing permits.
- Works with physicians, nursing staff and administration in an efficient and open manner. Works as a change agent and continually provide quality patient care. Efficient at meetings, courteous and has the spirit to compromise. Become the point person in the expertise department for physicians, nursing, and administration.
- Works with Supervisor/Manager to find innovative ways to save on the operating expenses.
- Provides Leadership in the absence of Supervisor/Manager.
- (i.e., represents lab on committees/meetings, input to manager for performance evaluations,
- address personnel issues with Supervisor/Manager/Director)
Education Required: A bachelor’s degree is required in medical laboratory science or clinical laboratory science, or related biological science.
Licenses, Registrations, Certifications Required: Registered as a medical technologist (ASCP) or equivalent certification upon hire. New graduates must become certified within 12 months from date of hire.
Required Experience: 5+ years related work experience. Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and Microsoft Office applications, which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
Pay Range:
$40.45 – $54.43
The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
