Reporting to the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH), the Senior Vice President, Financial Operations and Corporate Accounting functions as a key resource on both Accounting, Payroll and Accounts Payable matters for BILH and its subsidiaries. The incumbent serves as the Accounting Principal for BILH and its subsidiaries and is responsible for planning, organizing and managing corporate-wide activities related to financial matters, including general accounting, internal and external financial reporting, and external audits. The incumbent also oversees the system-wide Payroll and Accounts Payable function for BILH and its subsidiaries. In addition, the SVP leads BILH’s FP&A, Net Revenue, Tax and Treasury functions.

Job Description:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee, direct, and organize the work of the System Accounting, Payroll and A/P teams, along with FP&A, Revenue Reimbursement, Tax and Treasury activities.
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
  • Upgrade and implement an appropriate system of policies, internal controls, financial monitoring, accounting standards, and procedures.
  • Lead the monthly general ledger close process and related financial statement reporting for BILH and its affiliates.
  • Plan, lead, and execute the annual year-end audit process, including presentation of the final results to the Board Audit and Compliance Committee.
  • Provide analytical support to executive leadership, including development of internal management reporting capabilities.
  • Lead the annual budget planning process and collaborate on the annual strategic plan.
  • Lead the interpretation of US GAAP and IFRS and ensure compliance, including researching new accounting regulations and preparing resolution memos for management.
  • Oversee the preparation of internal and external financial reporting to ensure they are prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and the accounting process conforms to a reasonable standard of internal control.
  • Oversee the preparation of reporting packages for the BILH Board, Finance, Investment, and Audit Committees including draft agendas and meeting minutes.
  • Evaluate financial, Accounting and Payroll system applications, and lead optimization efforts.
  • Lead implementation efforts of new software in partnership with IT when those solutions are needed.
  • Make recommendations for changes in financial operations.
  • Improve administrative and operational accounting and payroll services.
  • Help lead the productivity and position control efforts across BILH including review of System Services spend.
  • Advise the Chief Financial Officer and other key members of the executive leadership team on financial planning, accounting, accounts payable, payroll, cash flow, and policy matters.
  • Attends the Board Audit and Finance Committee; effectively communicates and presents financial updates at the Committee meetings.
  • Maintains continuous lines of communication, keeping the Chief Financial Officer informed of all critical matters.
  • Represents the organization externally, as necessary, particularly Accounting, Audit and Payroll matters.
  • Ensures staff members receive timely and appropriate training and development.
  • Establishes and monitors staff performance and development goals, assigns accountabilities, sets objectives, establishes priorities, and conducts annual performance appraisals.
  • Performs other duties and assignments at the direction of the Chief Financial Officer.

Qualifications:

Education / Training:

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration; Master’s in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration is preferred.

Experience:

Requires a minimum 7 to 10 years’ Accounting/Finance experience within health care institution or with a public accounting firm with extensive experience with health care clients. A minimum of 5 years’ experience at a corporate level in a high-level leadership role is required.

Certification, Licensure, Registration:

Certified Public Accountability (CPA) license, Certified Management Accountant (CMA) license or documented work experience gained through five or more years leading a healthcare accounting function at the VP, Controller or CFO level required.

Other Qualifications:

Requires the ability to maintain confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to financial, legal, and patient and employee records. Proven track record of creative problem-solving and change management in a high-volume mission driven organization.

 

 

Pay Range:

$431,100.00 USD – $526,800.00 USD

The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time.  In addition to base compensation, this position may be eligible for additional compensation, which may include performance-based incentive bonuses.
