Part Time Hours stationed mainly in CT Department: 16 hours per week. Every Saturday and Sunday 11am-9:30pm (can be slightly flexible on hours of work)

Under the direct supervision of Radiology Leadership and direction of the Imaging Technologists, the Radiology Tech Aide is responsible for assisting technologists and radiologists in a variety of administrative and patient care duties to ensure a smooth and efficient patient workflow and experience. Assists patients before, during and after various Radiology exams. Transports patients to and from the department according to departmental protocols. Performs all duties with respect to receiving patients as they arrive in Radiology and prepares all appropriate paperwork for their imaging procedure. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment and demonstrate the ability to prioritize multiple competing tasks and demands and to seek managerial assistance as needed. Utilizes excellent customer service skills with patients, their families and referrng physician offices.

Job Description:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Coordinates daily Radiology schedules in advance and ensures that all required paperwork is complete in order to eliminate/reduce delays.

2. Assesses waiting room status regularly and monitors patient flow. Informs technical staff of arrival of patients and alerts staff to patients requiring assistance in a timely basis.

3. Greets, transports and/or escorts patients in a friendly manner and communicates wait time to patients.

4. Assists patients with dressing and/or undressing as necessary.

5. Assists patients with the completion of appropriate questionnaires/history forms.

6. Facilitates, reassures and offers support to the patient undergoing exams in order to reduce possible stress and anxiety as well as enlist patient cooperation.

7. Stock and neatly maintain dressing areas with gowns and other linen.

8. Transports patients to and from the department according to departmental protocols. Assists with the transfer and positioning of patients, physical room set up and assisting with patient care.

9. Stocks exam rooms with supplies and maintains supply room in accordance with hospital compliance requirements. Maintains clean and organized work area.

10. Cleans equipment and exam room. Notifies department of equipment defects or damage.

11. Obtain outside imaging and reports from referring institutions as needed.

12. Assists technologists with incoming calls and answers questions as appropriate.

13. Demonstrates the ability to work harmoniously and productively with Radiologists, Technologists and all other departments to facilitate the completion of departmental work in a timely fashion.

14. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills and contributes to a pleasant work environment at all times. Acts as an informational resource to staff members and patients to facilitate in the departmental workflow

15. Assists with requests for CDs in a timely fashion. Burn CD’s and complete request forms according to policy. Distributes CDs to patients and ensures request is completed in its entirety.

16. Demonstrates competency in all applicable aspects of Epic following departmental guidelines for maintaining patient confidentiality.

17. Confirms appointments with patients over the phone as needed. Reschedules imaging appointments as needed based on departmental needs.

18. Demonstrates the hospital’s BILH We Care Shared Values for service excellence.

19. Considers specific cultural beliefs and practices when providing services to patients, utilizing interpreter services for patients with limited English proficiency.

20. Completes assignments accurately and on time; enthusiastically provides assistance to others when need exists; proactively seeks ways to assist.

21. All communications with others, whether written or oral, are clear, concise, courteous, appropriate and timely.

22. Exhibits calm and professional manner at all times; recovers quickly from adverse situations; maintains confidentiality, seeking and sharing information on need-to-know basis only.

23. Maintains a presentable appearance in accordance with dress code requirements, including wearing visible hospital identification badge.

24. May be asked to assist in muliple Radiology modalities.

25. Work variable shifts as necessary.

Employee maintains competencies (position specific and hospital-wide) required for the specific patient population served.

Performs all duties in accordance with safety and other laws, rules, and regulations set forth by appropriate regulatory and government agencies and in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures.

May be required to perform similar or related duties as may be necessary on an emergency basis or as designated by the department manager or supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in a clinical setting and familiarity with medical terminology as well as strong interpersonal, customer service, time management, computer and organizational skills required. The ability to multi-task and prioritize activities preferred.
  • Reading and writing skills sufficient to identify pertinent patient information.
  • AHA Healthcare Provider BLS certification is required (may be completed upon hire).
  • Must be able to assist patients with mobility difficulties.
  • Students enrolled in an accredited imaging program strongly preferred

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in an indoor healthcare environment and may involve exposure to noise, ionizing radiation, and biological or infectious waste. Use of protective equipment may be required. This role requires frequent standing and walking, with occasional sitting. Duties may involve occasional to frequent pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, finger dexterity, and balancing. Occasional stooping may be required.The ability to lift up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 50+ pounds occasionally to frequently is required. Occasional carrying of up to 30 pounds may also be required. Visual abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Pay Range:

$18.50 – $24.90

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.  Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
