Under the general supervision of the Clinical Nurse Manager, the Bronchoscopy Technician I functions as a member of the bronchoscopy team, providing support to all team members and providing safe and efficient care during pulmonary interventional procedures. The Bronchoscopy Technician I is responsible for setting up equipment, assisting the bronchoscopist, handling and labeling of specimens, and cleaning and care of equipment pre- and post-procedures.

Job Description:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

– Provides  safe and efficient care for all patients undergoing bronchoscopic procedures

– Works independently as a self-starter, but is able to work as a cooperative team member

– Provides an aseptic, safe, fully equipped procedural environment

– Adheres to aseptic technique

– Sets up all procedures

– Cares for all instrumentation and supplies during bronchoscopic  procedures

– Directly assists the bronchoscopy team during all bronchoscopic  procedures

– Assists with drawing up and passing topical anesthetics to the bronchoscopist during bronchoscopic procedures

– Assists with drawing up and insertion of normal saline into the bronchoscope channel  as instructed by the bronchoscopist during bronchoscopic procedures

– Checks equipment and instrumentation for proper functioning, and takes corrective action when necessary

– Collects and processes all specimens

– Orders all supplies

– Reprocesses bronchoscopes using high-level disinfection

– Follows department standards for billing processes.

– Performs all the duties of the Clinic Assistant/Medical Assistant when working in the Department of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine

– Achieves and maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association, according to departmental standards (within two months of hire).

– Demonstrates an adherence to fulfill the role in regulatory compliance and readiness

– Participates in and successfully completes Mandatory Education.

– Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:   High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required.                   

Licensure, Certification, Registration: No

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:  

– Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required to communicate with patients, family members, physicians, and other health care providers, as well as other colleagues. 

– Knowledge of medical terminology.  Must possess strong problem-solving abilities and analytical skills to ensure patients’ needs are met. 

– Must possess basic computer skills to input and retrieve clinical information, as well as patient registration and appointment information. 

– Utilizes critical thinking and good judgment in the performance of tasks. 

– Must possess good organizational skills and the ability to multitask and to prioritize daily assignments to ensure smooth workflow  

Experience: Entry-level. Experience as an endoscopy technician, medical assistant, nursing assistant,  or equivalent is highly preferred

 

 

Pay Range:

$22.62 – $33.61

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.  Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
