BIDMC Pharmacy Department is recruiting for a Clinical Pharmacy Manager to oversee the primary practice area of Internal Medicine. This position will support direct supervision of pharmacists to provide optimal clinical services including transitions of care, patient care rounds, and expansion of clinical programs. Reporting to the Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services, this position supports the following responsibilities, including but not limited to:
• Creates and maintains pharmacist staffing schedule
• Hires and trains new staff, conducts performance evaluations, and
maintains competencies
• Develops and has oversite of clinical pharmacy programs
• Supports oversight and review of new formulary requests, clinical
pathways and guidelines, and regulatory requirements (REMS)
• Participates in hospital and system level committees
• Maintains continuous quality and process improvement, oversees
medication safety, and development of new educational programs
• Collaborates with nursing directors and managers to ensure patient safety,
medication education, and support of drug information
• Fosters educational training of pharmacy students and residents
• Supports coverage of clinical shifts as needed and rotates through clinical
on call
Job Description:
Essential Responsibilities:
- Practices pharmacy in accordance with laws, rules and regulation of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy, Department of Public Health, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and Drug Enforcement Administration and in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures. Maintains credentials in accordance with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy.
- Collaborates with the Clinical Director and Pharmacy Leadership to develop and implement clinical pharmacy programs and services in support of the pharmacy mission and strategic plan.
- Provides leadership and direction to the Clinical Pharmacy Team/s; Manages staff resources, to ensure staffing plans (pharmacist team schedule) meets departmental and patient care needs. Responsible for performance evaluations; staff training and development; team building; recruitment; vacation/leave approvals; disciplinary matters and other related personnel management duties.
- Serves as a Clinical Pharmacy Leader and active participant in hospital committees in related clinical practice area and others committees as needed.
- Works collaboratively with other health care providers and the clinical team members to develop and maintain a sound formulary system to support evidence based pharmaceutical care and cost-effective drug utilization. Coordinates formulary reviews, drug use evaluations, quality assurance programs.
- Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities. Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews. Direct Reports: More than 7 Indirect Reports: None
- Assists in planning, monitoring and/or managing budget in functional area of department.
Required Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree in Pharmacy (PharmD) required.
- License Massachusetts Pharmacist required.
- 3-5 years related work experience required and 1-3 years supervisory/management experience required
- Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PGY1 and PGY2 Pharmacy Residency.
- Board Certification in Related Practice.

Pay Range:
$147,680.00 USD – $187,294.00 USD
The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
