Job Description:
Under the direction of the Practice Manager and Clinical Supervisor, the Medical Office Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive clinical support to physicians and advanced practice providers within a busy outpatient practice. The RN is responsible for coordinating patient care, performing clinical triage, providing patient education, and ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care throughout the continuum of treatment.
Working collaboratively with providers, clinical staff, and other healthcare disciplines, the Medical Office RN utilizes clinical expertise and critical thinking to assess patient needs, coordinate care, and promote positive patient outcomes. This role supports patients through education, counseling, health maintenance, care coordination, and ongoing clinical management while delivering compassionate, evidence-based care.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Patient Triage

Perform telephone triage by assessing patient symptoms, determining the urgency of care, and providing appropriate clinical guidance using nursing judgment and established protocols.

Complete new obstetrical intake appointments, including ordering genetic testing according to established protocols.

Review laboratory and diagnostic test results and communicate findings as appropriate.

Process medication refill requests in accordance with approved protocols.

Coordinate medication and imaging prior authorizations.

Initiate and manage electronic prescription refill requests.

Respond to provider requests and patient messages within the electronic medical record (EMR).

Schedule Maternal-Fetal Medicine consultations, diagnostic imaging, and other specialty appointments as needed.

Review, manage, and distribute incoming genetic testing results.
Patient Education & Care Coordination

Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, preventive care, and health maintenance.

Coordinate patient care with physicians, advanced practice providers, specialists, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care.

Advocate for patients by promoting timely access to care and addressing clinical concerns.

Maintain organized workflows to support safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care.

Qualifications
Education

Graduate of an accredited or state-approved School of Nursing required.
Licensure & Certification

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required.

Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Experience

Previous outpatient or medical office nursing experience preferred.

Experience with electronic medical records (EMR), patient triage, and care coordination preferred.

Strong communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Pay Range:
$33.00 – $49.92
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. The pay range for this position is established and governed by the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Employees hired into this position will receive compensation consistent with the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
