The Director, Project Management provides leadership, coordination, and oversight for projects from initiation through completion. This includes project planning, execution, monitoring, and evaluation. The role requires strong communication skills, collaboration with stakeholders across the organization, and demonstrated expertise in project management, leadership, and process improvement. Depending on departmental needs, this position may also supervise project management staff.Job Description:
Primary Responsibilities:
- Works with senior leadership as a thought partner to identify and select projects of strategic importance to the department and institution. Defines project scope, goals and deliverables that support department/institutional goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders. Develops full-scale project plans and associated communications documents. (essential)
- Creates, monitors, and executes project work plans and revises as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements. Manages day-to-day operational aspects of a project and scope. Proactively manages changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devises contingency plans. Identifies and manages project dependencies and critical path. (essential).
- Defines project success criteria and disseminates them to involved parties throughout project life cycle. Conducts project post mortems and creates a recommendations report in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements. (essential)
- Identifies the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals. Delegates tasks and assigns responsibilities to appropriate personnel. (essential)
- Develops best practices and tools for project execution and management. Ensures project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately. Plans and schedules project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools. Tracks project milestones and deliverables. (essential)
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in Business or Public Health preferred.
- More than 10 years related work experience required.
- Strong project management skills. Demonstrates proficiency in area of process improvement.
- 7 - 10 years of management experience in a health care setting.
- Demonstrated success leading teams in planning and executing improvements. High level of leadership skills and demonstrated proficiency in the areas of root cause analysis, problem solving, process improvement and system redesign.
- Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven leadership ability in the respective Department (e.g., in Pathology: experience in pathology and/or laboratory medicine; in IT/IS: experience in healthcare information systems).
Competencies:
Decision Making: Ability to make decisions that are guided by precedents, policies and objectives. Regularly makes decisions and recommendations on issues affecting a department or functional area.
Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are highly varied, complex and often non-recurring, requiring staff input, innovative, creative, and Lean diagnostic techniques to resolve issues.
Independence of Action: Ability to set goals and determines how to accomplish defined results with some guidelines. Manager/Director provides broad guidance and overall direction.
Written Communications: Ability to summarize and communicate in English moderately complex information in varied written formats to internal and external customers.
Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.
Team Work: Ability to lead and direct multiple collaborative teams for large projects or groups both internal and external to the Medical Center and across functional areas. Results have significant implications for the management and operations of the organization.
Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.
Social/Environmental Requirements:
Work requires close attention to task for work to be accurately completed. Intermittent breaks during the work day do not compromise the work.
Work requires constant response to changing circumstances and using new information to adjust approach and to quickly respond to new needs.
No substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions

Sensory Requirements:

Physical Requirements:
Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally in carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling objects. Sitting most of the time, with walking and standing required only occasionally
