Job Description:

The Director of Professional Development is responsible for developing, planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating educational and staff development programs for Patient Care Services and the facility. This role ensures nursing and clinical staff maintain the highest standards of competency and compliance through comprehensive orientation, ongoing education, and professional growth initiatives.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Professional Development Department in alignment with the vision of the Nursing Division.
  • Monitor compliance with professional, regulatory, and governmental standards; serve as a liaison with administration, quality, risk management, and regulatory agencies.
  • Provide direction and guidance for interdepartmental quality improvement programs and committees.
  • Direct nursing orientation and staff development programs to validate and enhance clinical staff competence.
  • Support implementation and utilization of clinical nursing research.
  • Design, implement, and lead organization-wide learning and development initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain continuing education programs for nursing staff.
  • Evaluate program outcomes and implement modifications as needed.
  • Manage the annual budget for nursing education services.
  • Participate in institutional and departmental goal setting.
  • Mentor and guide direct reports for professional success.
  • Organize nurse educators to meet the educational needs of nursing staff.
  • Staff the Professional Development Department with qualified personnel.
  • Collaborate with nursing leadership and other disciplines on education and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Lead the Hospital’s Nursing Council.
  • Develop and maintain preceptorship programs for new nursing staff.
  • Coordinate student internships and clinical rotations with educational partners.
  • Organize and maintain AHA education programs
  • Ensure work practices reflect the philosophy, purpose, and policies of Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Plymouth.
  • Model the organization’s core values.
  • Supervise and lead the Professional Development team.
  • Serve on committees as a liaison and resource for professional development.
  • Maintain records and files for compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor professional development services using designated metrics.
  • Research and develop evidence-based programs, training, and competencies.

Experience/Education Required:

  • Minimum 5 years of healthcare experience or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of experience in staff development.
  • Current Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing required; master's degree in nursing, Education, or related field required.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills

Pay Range:

$64.90 – $93.75

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.  Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
