SUPERVISOR ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES
Job Description:
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
1. Reviews assigned areas on a continuous basis, to ensure work meets the department's quality standards and that work schedules are adhered to. Provides direct feedback and follow-up to staff, as needed.
2. Responds to emergency calls and moves staff, as appropriate. Makes adjustments and changes daily assignments of staff. Recommends changes regarding work schedules and staff assignments. Coordinates project work and supervises assigned work crews. Reviews earned time requests, vacations, and use of overtime with manager/director.
3. Conducts quality control interviews with patients, prepares reports of findings, and reviews with the director/manager, as well as the appropriate nurse manager.
4. Coordinates the cleaning of drapes throughout the hospital with the outside contractor. Coordinates the activities of pest control company, following established guidelines. Works within budget guidelines.
5. Assists in the recruitment of vacant positions, and interviews and recommends the hiring of new staff. Initiates departmental orientation and training to specific cleaning procedures. Evaluates staff's performance, completes appraisals, and meets with staff. Recommends and initiates personnel actions, as needed.
6. Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with ancillary departments and interacts with all levels of hospital staff to resolve problems. Participates as a member on assigned hospital committees and attends meetings, as requested.
7. Inventories and maintains par levels of supplies and equipment. Inspects and maintains safe and clean equipment. Recommends preventative maintenance, as needed. Informs director/manager of special needs.
8. Answers internal and external telephone calls to Environmental Services in a professional manner. Takes messages or pages staff, as appropriate.
9. Enhances professional growth and development by attending hospital continuing education programs listed under "Development Objectives." Attends and conducts inservices as required. Maintains an active membership in the Professional Housekeeping Association.
10. Assumes overall responsibility for the department operation in the absence of the director/manager. Works all shifts, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
11. Works under the supervision of the Director/Manager of Environmental Services.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
1. Previous supervisor experience in a hospital or industrial setting, with experience in infection prevention principles and techniques.
2. Ability to read and write to understand directions and warnings on cleaning supplies and to complete daily work assignments such as Quality Assurance audits.
3. Strong Interpersonal skills to be pleasant and courteous and to interact with patients, visitors, and all levels of hospital staff.
4. Ability to pay close attention to detail.
5. Some computer experience required to place supply orders and monitor the bedtracking system.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Normally works in clean, well-lighted, well-ventilated area.
2. Some exposure to infectious and/or hazardous materials, and contact with water, cleaning, and disinfecting solutions.
3. Complies with precautions, as defined by Infection Control staff, in patients/material requiring isolation.
Pay Range:
$47,840.00 USD – $64,386.00 USD
The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
