The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor is a member of the pharmacy leadership team and is responsible for supervising the inpatient pharmacy technician workforce and overseeing the operations of the inpatient pharmacy. This individual must understand and be proficient in the pharmacy technician responsibilities in the central pharmacy and in all areas where inpatient pharmacy technicians work. This working supervisor position will actively monitor and guide improvements to staff performance and operational workflows, as well as hold staff accountable to performance and behavior standards. This position reports to the Pharmacy Technician Manager and works closely with other supervisors and managers to advance the practice of pharmacy technicians and pharmacy services throughout the institution. This supervisor is a member of a team who jointly provide supervisory oversight of the 24 hour operation of the inpatient pharmacy.

Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities:

1.    Practices pharmacy and maintains credentials in accordance with the laws, rules, and regulations of the MA Board of Registration in Pharmacy, the Department of Public Health, U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Drug Enforcement Administration and in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures.
2.    Oversees daily operations of pharmacy technicians and pharmacy students/interns with regards to drug distribution, safety and efficacy in accordance with the law and regulations governing pharmacy technicians and the practice of pharmacy by the appropriate state and federal agencies
3.    Supervises the activities of pharmacy technicians and pharmacy students/interns across all areas of pharmacy technician practice.
4.    Working Supervisor, able to staff all areas of the pharmacy as needed including unit dose coordination, hazardous and non-hazardous sterile and non-sterile compounding, as well as all medication distributive and maintenance tasks to all areas of the hospital
5.    Supports compliance and readiness with regulatory and accreditation bodies; Joint Commission, CMS, DPH, QOPI, USP <797>, USP <795>, USP <800>.  
6.    Responsible for supporting performance evaluations; staff training and development; team building; recruitment; disciplinary matters and other related personnel oversight duties.
7.    Participates in scheduling activities, vacation/leave approvals, and timecard/payroll activities as needed
8.    Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities. Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following in collaboration with the manager and director: hiring, termination, corrective action, and performance reviews.
9.    Works collaboratively with all pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy personnel. Upholds a culture of respect and teamwork across the Pharmacy Department.
10.    Promotes positive relations and actively contributes to a supportive work environment. Fosters a team environment within the department and effective inter-disciplinary collaboration.
11.    Participates in on-call responsibilities and rotation on behalf of the department.
12.    Meets on a regular basis in collaboration with Lead Technicians and the Pharmacy Technician Manager to continually develop and maintain operational goals and standards. Supports the development, implementation, and oversight of operational metrics.
13.    Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

1.    High School diploma or GED required. Vocational or Technical training in Pharmacy Technician Certification Program preferred.
2.    License – MA Registered Pharmacy Technician
3.    PTCB or NHA nationally certified 
4.    5+ years technician practice experience required in a related practice setting.
5.    Demonstrated interpersonal and management skills necessary to educate and supervise staff. Independent thinker with good judgment and constant triaging ability. 
6.    Ability to handle non-routine tasks.
7.    Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

•    1 or more years leadership or supervisory experience
•    Advanced pharmacy technician certifications (CPhT-Adv, CSPT)
 

 

 

Pay Range:

$88,004.80 – $113,006.40

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.  Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
