Unit-Based Nurse Educator – Cardiac ICU / CCU

Lahey Hospital & Medical Center is seeking an experienced and passionate Unit-Based Nurse Educator (UBE) to support our 16-bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (ICU) / Coronary Care Unit (CCU). This role is dedicated to advancing clinical excellence through education, competency validation, and professional development for nurses caring for critically ill cardiac patients.

The Cardiac ICU/CCU provides highly specialized care utilizing advanced cardiac technologies, including intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), Impella devices, and other mechanical circulatory support modalities. As the Unit-Based Nurse Educator, you will play a key role in ensuring staff are well-prepared to deliver safe, evidence-based care while meeting regulatory and quality standards.

Position Summary

The Unit-Based Nurse Educator provides dedicated education and competency support for the Cardiac ICU/CCU. This role partners closely with nursing leadership, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to support unit orientation, annual education requirements, regulatory compliance, and quality monitoring initiatives while serving as a clinical and educational resource for frontline nursing staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate unit-based orientation for new Cardiac ICU/CCU nursing staff

  • Coordinate and maintain annual education requirements, including regulatory, competency, and skills-based training

  • Provide education related to advanced cardiac therapies and technologies, including IABP and Impella devices

  • Support competency validation and ongoing clinical skill development

  • Collaborate with nursing leadership to support quality monitoring, safety, and performance improvement initiatives

  • Serve as a clinical resource for evidence-based cardiac and critical care practices

  • Promote professional growth, clinical excellence, and a culture of continuous learning

  • Provide flexibility for occasional nights and weekends to meet unit needs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required

  • Current Registered Nurse license from the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association required

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required

  • Minimum of 3 years of cardiac specialty nursing experience required

  • Additional 1–3 years of training, education, or staff development experience preferred

  • Demonstrated proficiency with advanced cardiac technologies, including Balloon Pumps, Impellas, and IABPs

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of cardiac critical care nursing and evidence-based practice

  • Excellent communication, teaching, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams and nursing leadership

  • Passion for education, mentorship, and advancing cardiac nursing practice

  • Commitment to quality, safety, and regulatory compliance

Pay Range:

$38.11 – $98.23

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.  Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
