Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities

Responsible for the effective selection, development and performance management of staff, to ensure the right talent is in place to achieve staff experience, clinical, patient experience, quality and financial goals. Works collaboratively with Human Resources to recruit, hire, and retain qualified personnel.

The Nurse Manager is the role model for excellence in leadership, quality, patient experience, staff experience and service excellence.

Supports the unit staff (Nurses, Endoscopy technicians, and Medical Secretaries) in the identification of patient care priorities and promotes the development of critical thinking skills in the clinical areas.

Assists the team in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.  Serves as an internal consultant for difficult and/or complex patient care needs.

Partners, with the Director to prepare and monitor unit budgets. Prepares variance reports and plans for budget adherence, as needed.

Participates in the development and implementation of standards of nursing care practice.  Utilizes knowledge of nursing research to support and advance professional nursing practice.  Critically analyzes research studies in area of specialization to justify inclusion/exclusion of findings into practice. Advances professional nursing practice through publication and/or membership participation in professional nursing organizations and best practice research.

Represents the nursing discipline and/or own unit on hospital-wide committees and or initiatives.

Directly and/or through collaboration with the Assistant Nurse Manager, and Nursing Educator, ensures all credentials including, but not limited to licensure, certifications, trainings, and competencies are kept in accordance with the appropriate regulatory and/or hospital requirements.

Works closely with the Chief-Department of Gastroenterology and participates in multi-disciplinary clinical meetings with the main objective being the successful treatment and management of patient care. Models and promotes patient advocacy.

Reviews all safety incident reports, for completeness and clarity of the episode/problem. Report all negative outcomes of such episodes, in a timely manner, to quality and safety and problem solve with other managers to prevent further negative outcomes.

Responsible for the development of education materials for patients, families, and staff and collaborates with Quality and Safety and/or Nursing Professional Development as needed. Assures appropriate orientation, competence assessment, and continuing education of all staff.

Responsible for ongoing process improvement efforts in all assigned areas to meet or exceed benchmarks in key areas. Goal is to provide an efficient, safe, effective, and productive unit workflow. 

Identifies staff educational needs and develops educational programs to meet those needs. Works collaboratively with unit Educators and equipment vendors to ensure that appropriate education programs are available to meet the educational needs of all staff. Accepts responsibility for identifying and meeting own educational needs.

Participates in the development and implementation of both broad nursing division goals and department/unit specific goals. Oversees and conducts performance appraisals on all staff. 

Maintains effective open communication across all areas to ensure alignment of programs, services, and outcomes. Coaches and supports staff by removing barriers and addressing issues.

Participates in the educational experiences of students on clinical rotations through affiliated schools.

Maintains thorough understanding of hospital policies and protocols, and practices within those policies and protocols, and ensures compliance.  Demonstrates competency with all regulatory expectations and guidelines (i.e. CDC, DPH, SGNA, Joint Commission).

Builds collegial relationships resulting in compassionate and committed teams across Endoscopy and with all stakeholders.

Participates in the development and implementation of standards, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures across all areas, which facilitate quality patient care, creative professional practice and meets all requirements of state and federal agencies.

Fosters staff development by assisting them to identify goals and appropriate opportunities for learning. Encourages creativity and celebrates staff accomplishments.

Required Qualifications

Qualifications:

Current licensure from the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.

Master’s Degree in Nursing, Healthcare/Business Administration preferred.  BSN required.

3- 5 years of Endoscopy related experience required. ACLS certification.

Demonstrates the necessary clinical competence in area of nursing practice.

Demonstrates experience with EHRs (EPIC preferred), MS Office applications required.

Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

 

 

Pay Range:

$165,000.00 USD – $215,000.00 USD

The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
