Join our team in the state-of-the-art Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CICU), located in the Klarman Building. We are seeking a highly motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) with a master’s in nursing or nursing education to advance nursing practice, lead professional development, and support high-acuity cardiac care.
The CICU is a 15-bed unit specializing in the care of patients with acute coronary syndromes, life-threatening arrhythmias, advanced heart failure, and those awaiting heart transplantation. Our team utilizes advanced therapies including IABP, Impella, VA-ECMO, and other mechanical circulatory support devices.
Job Description:
Essential Responsibilities:
- Acts as a clinical leader who supports the development of staff utilizing the latest evidence-based practice relative to safe, cost-effective, and optimal nursing care.
- Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to integrate the holistic nursing approach into a comprehensive plan of care for the patient/family. Identifies and prioritizes nursing care needs for a select population of patients/families.
- Develops and implements care conferences or programs for individual patients or populations of patients. Designs and evaluates innovative educational programs for patients/families, the community, and other healthcare providers.
- Creates and updates nursing policies, protocols, and procedures using evidence-based data to develop nurse-sensitive indicators in order to achieve positive outcomes.
- Collaborates with nurse specialists, unit based educators, and nursing directors on the creation and implementation of orientation, clinical competencies, and other clinical educational program development. Mentors nurses in the acquisition of new skills, the effective incorporation of evidence into practice, and in career development.
- Participates in the identification, selection, implementation and evaluation of products and equipment.
- Collaborates with nursing colleagues and other health care professionals in conducting research and publishing scholarly works, representing BIDMC, locally and nationally.
Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Nursing or Nursing Education

Current Massachusetts RN license

American Heart Association BLS certification

1–3 years of relevant Critical Care experience

Proficiency with electronic health records and Microsoft Office applications

Preferred Qualifications:

CNS certification and Massachusetts CNS license

Experience in cardiac or critical care nursing

Pay Range:
$83,845.00 USD – $216,674.00 USD
The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
