Under the direction of the Manager of Cardiopulmonary, oversees and directs the daily clinical aspect of Respiratory Therapy. Responsible for staffing and oversight of therapist and technicians assignments and clinical education. Performs all duties of a Respiratory Therapist.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education Required: Associates of Science in Respiratory Care
Education Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Respiratory Care
Experience Required: At least 5 years’ experience in an acute care setting
Experience Preferred: Supervisory as well as a background in education and or training or at least 3 years of progression in work related responsibilities.
License and Certification Required:
- Valid State of Massachusetts Respiratory Therapist License
- Registered Respiratory Therapist NBRC credentials
- Basic Life Support
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program
JOB FUNCTIONS

- Reviews, collects and evaluates relevant clinical data. Performs both basic and advanced therapeutic procedures for patients of all age groups from neonates through geriatrics.
- Provides effective education to patients, families, students and co-workers as appropriate.
- Performs emergency and acute Respiratory Care procedures in accordance with the quality guidelines in the departmental policy and procedure manual.
- Provides required written documentation in clear concise language and in a timely manner.
- Assembles checks and corrects malfunctions and performs quality controls on Respiratory Care equipment.
- Performs diagnostic procedures including, but not limited to, arterial puncture, blood gas analysis, pulmonary functions, oximetry and peak flows.
- Assists with arrangements for Durable Medical Equipment ordered for patients being discharged in need of respiratory devices. Prepares documentation, contacts provider and provides education for patient and families being discharged with such devices.
- Assists the Manager in oversight of the Durable Medical Equipment companies, meets with representatives as needed and ensures complies on rotation meet the needs of our patients.
- Maintains clinical and professional competency based upon established standards of practice.
- Enters billing into EPIC for all services provided.
Supervisory duties/ In collaboration with the Manager and Director:
- Interviews, hires, orients, evaluates and when necessary disciplines staff. Trains and coaches staff to ensure position performance and hospital set initiatives are met. Establishes work schedules within department to insure adequate staffing, revises schedule as needed.
- Varies schedule to be able to properly assess operations and staff performance.
- Provides biannual in-service training for Respiratory Therapy staff that includes trigger competencies in Respiratory Therapy and or new evidence based practice medicine in respiratory care.
- Evaluates trials and recommends new equipment and technologies.
- Participates on Hospital Committees.
- Participates in Departmental QA / PI initiatives making changes and recommendations. Including CAP inspections for the ABG lab
- Role models service excellence mentors, educates and develops plans to recognize subpar service excellence as well as recognition for above par service excellence.
- Other projects and duties as they arise.
Pay Range:
$45.39 – $67.45
The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
