Postpartum/Level II Nursery – Unit Coordinator/Patient Care Assistant
Job Description:
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Registers patient accurately by entering into the computer system all necessary patient information including demographics, medical information, physician and insurance requirements.
2. Enters into the computer system all visit related charges
3. Obtains medical records from the hospital system
4. Collates patient test results for RN/MD follow-up
5. Schedules appointments and provides financial insurance information to clients
6. Answers telephone, direct calls, takes messages, and responds to routine questions. Greets patients as they present to the unit. Distrubutes mail.
7. Assembles all patient records and files information in a timely manner
8. Acts as a liaison between providers, staff, billing department, and patients.
9. Verify the accuracy of financial information in the computer system and file complete claims in the billing module to maximize collectability and decrease denials.
10. Ensures timely and effective workflow in the department.
11. Demonstrated ability to work independently, and pay close attention to detail, for a high level of accuracy nearly 100% of the time.
12. Effective telephone manner and ability to communicate with patients, physicians, and other professional staff. Excellent follow through skills.
13. Demonstrates fiscal accountability for department resources and the ability to achieve outcomes within allocated resources
14. Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy work environment by modeling the desired behaviors and encouraging those in others.
15. Ensures that referrals and authorizations for patient services are obtained on time.
16. Ensures the accurate and timely entry of charges and time of service payments for assigned practices.
17. Assists the Manager in establishing, implementing, and monitoring office policies, procedures, and protocols.
18. Monitors registration data to ensure correct data is entered on all new and established patients.
19. Maintains patient medical records in an accurate manner. Responds to requests for medical information when necessary.
20. Assists with activities of daily living such as hygiene, nutrition, elimination, mobility, comfort, and safety.
21. Monitors and documents vital signs, patient weights, intake/output, and other data as directed by registered nurse
22. Performs phlebotomy, EKG’s and glucometry. Collects and labels specimens.
23. Answers patient call lights and ensures resolution of patient issues
24. Transports discharged patients.
25. Participates in conferences and educational programs as appropriate.
26. Maintain BCLS certification and attend annual Safety Education Fair
Required Qualifications
1. High school graduate or equivalent
2. Previous clerical experience (preferably in a healthcare setting). Medical terminology preferred.
3. Ability to read and write at level 8, as documented on "Invest," the hospital's Employee Learning Laboratory software.
4. An ability to set appropriate priorities and organize work flow.
5. An ability to concentrate and pay attention to detail during frequent interruptions.
6. Strong interpersonal skills necessary to interface with support and professional staff and patients.
Pay Range:
$20.00 – $26.92
The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
