Performs all CT scans, including image-guided procedures, in a manner that ensures studies produced are of appropriate technical quality, are produced in a timely manner consistent with departmental goals and objectives. Responsible for maintaining all necessary regulatory logs pertaining to operation of equipment and care of patients. May be required to perform administrative duties in line with workflow and patient throughput. Utilizes the ALARA principle. Ensures high quality delivery of appropriate general patient care. Call and holiday shift rotation required per department requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):

- Advocates for all New England Baptist Hospital locations and promotes the hospitals mission to transform the lives of those we serve by promoting wellness, restoring function, lessening disability, alleviating pain and advancing knowledge in the musculoskeletal diseases and related disorders
- Patient Care – verifies patient’s I.D. using 2 patient identifier; verifies demographic and clinical information on the requisition and presence of written order; verifies demographic and clinical information from the requisition is accurate on the imaging device prior to performing first image; obtains additional history as needed; greets patients upon arrival and responsible for their care until discharge or appropriate hand-off to other clinic service/personnel; assesses patient’s physical and mental condition and ability to tolerate exams and procedures; modifies approach to patient care delivery as needed according to patient condition; exercises confidentiality with respect to patient information; and ensures and mentors students to practice same process
- CT Exams/Procedures/Tracking process – performs requested exams in a time frame consistent with departmental and institutional quality standards; consistently and accurately positions patients for each radiographic projection requested; consistently and accurately determines and adjusts exposure factors required to produce a diagnostic image for every exam requested; ensures RIS exam data is correct prior to completion of tracking steps (including appropriate exam type performed for accurate billing, updated clinical information if applicable); ensures all images have reached PACS prior to performing the “Release study” tracking step; Ensures all tracking steps are performed in a timely fashion as to not delay the official report creation on radiologic exams; and ensure student workflow is congruent to this practice
- Equipment – consistently and accurately operates scanners for every exam to ensure continued equipment functionality; reports any equipment issues in a timely fashion to management; and for urgent matters – places service call to vendors to expedite timely service repair.
- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of human anatomical structure, cross-sectional anatomy, physiological function, and pathology.
- Consistently practices proper aseptic or sterile technique during appropriate exams/procedures.
- Ensures students practice proper techniques in same scenarios
- Radiation Safety – monitors radiation delivery; utilizes standard Radiation safety practice of Time, Distance and shielding for all exams’ reviews own personal radiation exposure monitoring reports to keep exposure within required parameters; and ensures self and student adherence to ALARA
- Non-imaging functions: acts as a resource/liaison between physicians and their staff, all departments, and patients and their families, and the Radiology Departments, as well as with contracted radiologic technologist training programs; shares responsibility for transporting patients to other areas of the facility; performs clerical duties when necessary; exercises initiative in assisting other sections of the facility, serving as a medical assistant, lab assistant, et cetera; may be required to obtain necessary competency or certification to support non-imaging functions; and exemplifies the role in Radiologic Technologist, setting the example of professional conduct as mentor to incoming students
- Maintains competencies (position specific and hospital-wide) required for the specific patient population served.
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Commonwealth of MA Radiologic License
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (R) from ARRT
- Heart Saver certification required within 60 days of hire date from American Heart Association or Red Cross
- Demonstrated competence in CT
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent technical skills

Physical, Sensory, Mental, and Environmental Requirements
Physical Requirements:
Requires the ability to stand, walk, and remain mobile throughout the workday in a fast-paced clinical environment. Frequent movement is required, including bending, twisting, turning, pivoting, reaching, squatting, kneeling, balancing, and occasional climbing as necessary. Requires frequent use of hands for handling, fingering, keying, typing, writing, grasping, pinching, and fine motor manipulation when operating imaging equipment, documenting patient information, and performing procedures. Must be able to position, assist, transfer, pull, push, and reposition patients, including operating wheelchairs, stretchers, and other patient transport equipment. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment, supplies, and patients in accordance with departmental safety guidelines and patient care needs.
Sensory Requirements:
Requires visual acuity sufficient to accurately review physician orders, patient records, imaging studies, equipment displays, and technical data. Ability to distinguish colors and identify subtle image details necessary for diagnostic imaging. Requires the ability to assess patients at close range and monitor equipment and patient conditions during examinations and procedures. Must be able to hear and communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and in an environment with background noise. Requires the ability to monitor alarms, equipment indicators, and verbal instructions from patients, providers, and staff. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, families, physicians, students, and members of the healthcare team. Ability to recognize sensory cues including temperature changes, sharp versus dull sensations, odors, and other environmental conditions encountered in a healthcare setting.
Mental Requirements:
Requires strong reasoning, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills to evaluate imaging requests, assess patient conditions, determine appropriate scanning techniques, and respond appropriately to changing clinical situations. Must be able to understand and follow detailed instructions, adhere to established procedures and assigned work schedules, manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Requires the ability to work effectively under pressure while ensuring patient safety, image quality, regulatory compliance, and efficient workflow.
Environmental Requirements:
Work is performed primarily in a hospital and diagnostic imaging environment with frequent patient, physician, and public interaction. The role may involve working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Regular operation of CT scanners, imaging equipment, computers, and patient transport equipment is required. Potential exposure to infectious diseases, airborne pathogens, bloodborne pathogens, blood, bodily fluids, cleaning agents, chemicals, and other healthcare-related hazards may occur. Employees are required to follow all infection control, radiation safety, and workplace safety protocols, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, gowns, masks, eyewear, respirators, and other protective equipment as required.
Pay Range:
$48.00 – $71.33
The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
