Job Description:

Medical Director, Interventional Pain & Spine Center

Department: Anesthesiology & Interventional Pain Management

Location: Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, Burlington, MA

Reports To: Chair, Anesthesiology & Interventional Pain Management and Chair, Neurosurgery

Position Summary:

Lahey Hospital & Medical Center is actively seeking a visionary, collaborative, and growth-oriented physician leader to serve as Medical Director of Interventional Pain & Spine Center. This individual will provide strategic, clinical, operational, and academic leadership for the Pain Center, with responsibility for advancing a comprehensive, multidisciplinary program dedicated to the treatment of acute, chronic, cancer-related, and complex spine pain conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

As the clinical leader for the division, you will oversee patient care delivery and develop high-quality clinical services that enable the team to effectively manage complex pain conditions through pharmacologic, interventional, and non-interventional approaches. You will ensure evidence-based, patient-centered care while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and clinical excellence.

Working closely with Department Chairs and institutional leadership, you will lead the strategic expansion of outpatient pain clinics, interventional procedure locations, and related service lines to improve patient access, operational efficiency, and regional market presence. This includes growth of advanced procedural offerings such as image-guided spine interventions, neuromodulation, minimally invasive pain therapies, and other emerging techniques, while also strengthening non-procedural services including medication optimization, rehabilitation, behavioral health integration, pain psychology, and multidisciplinary chronic pain pathways.

A critical priority of the role is to build strong internal partnerships across the health system. You will work closely with Oncology to expand services for cancer-related pain management and collaborate with the Director of Acute Pain to enhance inpatient care pathways for patients with chronic pain and complex perioperative pain needs. Additional collaboration with Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Primary Care, PM&R, Behavioral Health, Rheumatology, Palliative Care, and Rehabilitation Services will be essential to creating seamless, coordinated care models.

In education and research, you will help shape the future of the program by developing a Multidisciplinary Pain Fellowship Program and promoting faculty engagement in resident and trainee education. You will also support scholarly activity, clinical innovation, outcomes research, and participation in regional and national academic initiatives.

Additional responsibilities include oversight of quality, safety, patient experience, provider recruitment and mentorship, operational performance, and program growth. The successful candidate will be a respected clinician and leader with strong relationship-building skills, entrepreneurial vision, and a demonstrated commitment to advancing multidisciplinary pain care through collaboration, education, innovation, and excellence.
