The Arrhythmia Technician supports the functions of the Holter Lab and follows all procedures necessary to interpret and prepare a detailed report on cardiac rhythms and complex rhythm disturbances obtained from Holter monitor recordings and patient-activated event recordings. Reports all pertinent findings to the appropriate physician.

Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes multiple online (web-based) data platforms to locate tracings, print and provide  initial detailed interpretation and summary of findings from the various monitor recordings; performs hourly analysis, if needed,  for the predominant rhythm and sample strips for documentation of significant arrhythmias for possible correlation with patient activities, complaints or drug effects. Performs and documents waveform measurements, as needed, for drug trails. (essential)
  • Applies and removes the Long Term ECG monitors, Mobile Cardiac Telemetry and Cardiac Event monitors. Answers questions from patients and family members and educates them on the use of the equipment. (essential).
  • Performs quality control by comparison with other technicians. (essential)
  • Performs Event, ECG Monitor and Mobile Cardiac Telemetry analysis, and prepares preliminary summary reports for the cardiologists review. Recognizes and reports any potentially hazardous arrhythmias to the appropriate physicians. (essential)
  • Assists practice assistants with difficult applications of monitors. Assists the manager in training new technicians with regard to lab operations and Joint Commission requirements. (essential)
  • Treats all patient information and laboratory findings in a confidential manner. Responds to all patients and internal staff in a courteous and professional manner. (essential)

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences, Biology or a related field preferred.
  • License Certified Cardiographic Tech or Certified Rhythm Analysis Tech credential preferred.
  • 1-3 years related work experience required in cardiac monitoring and analysis.
  • Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1-3 years experience in scanning of Holter/Cardiac Event/Extended Holter/ Mobile Cardiac Telemetry with competence in arrhythmia interpretation and complex rhythm disturbances.

Independence of Action:Ability to follow precedents and procedures. May set priorities and organize work within general guidelines. Seeks assistance when confronted with difficult and/or unpredictable situations. Work progress is monitored by supervisor/manager.

Written Communications: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers.

Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.

Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.

Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.

Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Age based Competencies:Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 years, Elderly: 60 - over.

Social/Environmental Requirements:

Work requires close attention to task for work to be accurately completed. Intermittent breaks during the work day do not compromise the work.

Work is fairly routine from day to day. Employee follows a set pattern with any changes being communicated by supervisor.

No substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions

Health Care Status:  HCW1: Regular, day-to-day contact; both face-to-face and hands-on (having close contact within three feet for at least five minutes). Examples: physicians, clinical nurses, phlebotomist, medical assistants, PFT tech, and x-ray tech.-Health Care Worker Status may vary by department

Sensory Requirements:

Close work (paperwork, visual examination), Color vision/perception, Visual monotony, Visual clarity <3 feet, Monitoring Equipment, Telephone.

Physical Requirements:

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus

This job requires constant sitting.Rarely there may be walking, Pull up and/or reposition patient weighing up to 100 pounds without assistance, Pull up and/or reposition patient weighing up to 250 pounds with assistance.
