The President will ensure that Winchester Hospital functions at the highest levels including delivering safe, high-quality coordinated care, efficient management of resources, smooth and efficient administrative services, and implementation of strategic and operational plans. The President will be responsible for the executive leadership, strategic growth, and fiscal health of Winchester Hospital. They will recognize the inclusive and collaborative culture of the hospital that has made it a success in the community and among its patients and use that as a steppingstone to further integrate into the Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) system.

The President will work collaboratively with system-wide leadership and other BILH hospital and business unit presidents to advance goals to strengthen its mission of becoming a fully integrated system of patient care, education, research, and community service. This individual will identify new strategic partnerships that extend into the community, ensuring a robust health system distinguished by offering outstanding patient care programs and strong financial performance. The President will be a strong operational leader with sound fiscal management experience who will continue Winchester Hospital’s culture of quality and patient satisfaction. The President will be a visible and enthusiastic leader within the organization and community and a vital partner in increasing philanthropic support for the Hospital.

Job Description:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Exemplify Winchester Hospital’s values and Service Excellence standards. Commit to making every encounter with our patients, patients’ family, co-workers, physicians and other customers the best that it can be.
  • Provide adept and visionary leadership in setting and implementing Winchester Hospital's strategic plan and operational imperatives, which must include an exemplary and consistent level of quality across all healthcare services provided to patients.
  • Foster an environment of trust, teamwork, accountability, transparency, innovation, and excellence.
  • Drive a high reliability organization through fostering operational excellence in all areas of care delivery, but specifically in operating room, emergency room, imaging, and ambulatory care.
  • Achieve superior financial performance through financial planning, improved operating and financial performance, fundraising, and external involvement with effective legislative and payor relationships.
  • Provide adept and visionary leadership in setting and honing Winchester's operational imperatives, including exemplary and consistent quality across all healthcare services provided to patients.
  • Inspire a culture rooted in a collaborative care model committed to the health of the community. One that carefully considers the needs of its key stakeholders, including patients and families served by the system and employees, physicians, board members, and volunteers.
  • Lead an ambitious program of philanthropy to ensure the growth and prosperity of Winchester Hospital.
  • Create a resilient, flexible, and transparent organization to adjust to the changing healthcare environment.
  • Establish and implement a mentorship and succession planning program for physician leaders and the medical staff across the enterprise that will further inspire a collegial environment of opportunity.
  • Engage local and system leadership (physicians, community, and hospital leaders) to develop and drive an effective clinical integration strategy consistent with Winchester Hospital's institutional dedication to providing superior health care leading to the best possible outcome for every patient. And to do so in the most cost-effective manner.
  • Provide system-wide leadership in the ongoing development of an integrated delivery network.
  • Build and nurture collaborative relationships with key stakeholders throughout the community, system and state.
  • Present a compelling external face for Winchester Hospital to state, regional, and national government leaders, and other constituencies.
  • Build upon an already strong platform to continuously improve quality and safety and advance the patient experience and engagement across Winchester Hospital through technology innovation.
  • Enhance the Hospital’s operational efficiency and effectiveness and continue to improve financial performance.
  • Execute Winchester Hospital's 10-year strategic plan, boldly defining the future needs to fuel growth and expansion within an evolving healthcare environment to optimize the Hospital's full potential.
  • Focus on constant talent renewal by recruiting, developing, and retaining the best providers and staff. In partnership with system-wide leaders, drive clinical integration across the organization.
  • Collaborate with the Board and senior management to strengthen the culture of philanthropy.
  • Articulate the importance of the network affiliation across BILH. Nurture and cultivate relationships with current and future partners.
  • Build collaborative and effective relationships with the senior executive team, system-wide executives, and physicians.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, required. Advanced degree in related management disciplines, such as an MBA, MPH or MD desirable.
  • Track record of exemplary leadership experience resulting in a thorough and broad knowledge of healthcare issues, including value-based care models and health system reimbursement trends.
  • Experience in working in an integrated health system, ideally within a competitive marketplace.
  • Proficient in exercise of personal influence, building consensus, providing leadership, with ability to navigate a diverse group of stakeholders, build a network of allies, and interface with state and local regulators, earning and maintaining stakeholder trust and respect.
  • Proven ability to formulate an operational strategy, guide the development of operating plans, and drive performance to achieve or surpass goals.
  • Manage large P&Ls in a complex health care environment with a record of strengthening financial, cost management, and efficiency performance.
  • Track record of recruiting, developing and retaining an exceptional team of senior leaders and clinicians.
  • Demonstrated experience of collaborating and working with advisory and fiduciary boards. Successful track record of establishing trust and cultivating relationships with board members and key stakeholders
