Job Description:

1.    Performs diversified technical and laboratory duties as described for a medical technologist as assigned. 
 2.    Organizes necessary quality control programs. 

 3.    Instructs staff to operate and understand new techniques and equipment. 

 4.    Serves as staff resource for unusual and difficult technical problems. 

 5.    Is responsible for educating and orienting new employees.

 6.    Provides inservice education as needed.

 7.    Maintains and supports the operation of the department in the absence of supervisory personnel.
 8.    Writes procedures and policies in accordance with regulatory agencies' requirements and standards. 
 9.    Assists Supervisor / Manager on special projects as needed.  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

 1.    Bachelor's degree in medical technology or an equivalent biological science is preferred. Associate’s degree in medical technology will be considered.  Eligibility or certification in medical technology, MT (ASCP) or MLT (ASCP) is preferred.

 2.    Three years of clinical laboratory experience in areas pertinent to the specific position requirements.

 3.    Some leadership experience preferred.

 4.    Good interpersonal and analytical skills.   

WORKING CONDITIONS

 1.    Exposure to infectious disease and to possible carcinogenic chemicals.

 2.    Minimal exposure to caustic agents, acids, and fumes.  

 3.    Occasional prolonged standing and walking. 

 4.    Works under constant time deadlines.

 5.    Performs data entry with repetitive hand movement and visual concentration at video display terminal in order to review and enter data.

 6.    Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulations.

 7.    Uses protective equipment as described in the Laboratory Policy and Procedure Manual.

8.    Requires exposure to power tools and heavy equipment.  

9.    Complies with precautions, as defined by Infection Control staff, in patients/materials requiring isolation.

10.    Consistently uses sharps safety devices as designed to prevent injuries to self.

 

 

Pay Range:

$40.45 – $54.43

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.  Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
