The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Lead – Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner – is responsible for coordinating a clinical program within the Neurosurgery Department. This includes program development, quality assurance, and oversight of patient care delivery systems, while actively participating in all aspects of patient care.

Qualifications:
Master’s degree in nursing or physician assistant studies required.
Current Massachusetts licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant required.
5–8 years of related work experience required.
Demonstrated ability to lead clinical programs and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.

Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Performs and documents histories and physical examinations. Orders and interprets diagnostic tests. Writes orders for medications and treatments according to licensure guidelines. Assesses patient response to treatments. (essential)

  • Participates in patient rounds and case conferences. Maintains and follows patient care protocols. Works in collaboration with nursing, intensivists, neurosurgeons, neurologists, fellows and house staff in educating patients and families. (essential)

  • Continually updates clinical knowledge and skills through consultation, formal and informal education, and review of current literature for self and other mid level providers. (essential)

  • Works with team of healthcare providers to improve the quality of care given to patients. Meets regularly with the Clinical Manager to plan and facilitate patient care improvements. Ensures that evidence based practice is followed for the particular patient population. (essential)

  • Initiates program development projects that may include networking, marketing, data collection, quality metrics and adherence to state and national guidelines. (essential)

  • Attends collaborative meetings. Participates in recruitment, hiring and evaluation of other mid level providers. Acts as a resource to mid -levels, RNs, physicians. (essential)

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Nursing required.

  • License Nurse Practitioner License required.

  • 5-8 years related work experience required.

  • Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.

Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.

 

Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.

 

Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.

 

Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.

Age based Competencies: Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 – 60 years, Elderly: 60 – over.

Social/Environmental Requirements:

Work requires close attention to task for work to be accurately completed. Intermittent breaks during the work day do not compromise the work.

 

Work is varied every day and the employee needs to be adaptable to respond to these changes and use independent judgment and manage priorities.

 

No substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions

 

Health Care Status:  HCW1: Regular, day-to-day contact; both face-to-face and hands-on (having close contact within three feet for at least five minutes). Examples: physicians, clinical nurses, phlebotomist, medical assistants, PFT tech, and x-ray tech.- Health Care Worker Status may vary by department

Sensory Requirements:

Close work (paperwork, visual examination), Color vision/perception, Visual clarity > 20 feet, Visual clarity <3 feet, Hot/Cold, Sharp/Dull, Smell, Conversation, Monitoring Equipment, Telephone.

Physical Requirements:

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move throughout the hospital campus

This job requires frequent sitting, walking, standing, bending neck, bending waist, twisting neck, twisting waist, Power Grasping using both hands, Fine Manipulation using both hands, Keyboard use. There may be occasional Reaching-above shoulder height, Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs, Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 75 lbs, Lifting and carrying items weighing up to or more than 100 lbs, Pushing items weighing up to 25 lbs. Rarely there may be Pushing/Pulling using both hands, Reaching-below shoulder height.

 

 

Pay Range:

$133,120.00 USD – $240,000.00 USD

The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
