Unit-Based Nurse Educator – 7 East / Medical-Surgical Unit
Lahey Hospital & Medical Center is seeking an experienced and passionate Unit-Based Nurse Educator (UBE) to support 7 East, a fast-paced adult surgical and medical-surgical inpatient unit. This role is dedicated to advancing clinical excellence through education, mentorship, and competency development for nurses caring for a diverse surgical population.
7 East delivers exceptional care to patients across general surgery, colorectal/urology, and trauma services. Nurses manage patients with multiple co-morbidities, complex wounds and dressings, central lines, TPN, PCA therapy, and pre- and post-operative care—creating a rich environment for learning and professional growth.
As the Unit-Based Clinical Nurse Educator, you will play a key role in supporting education and competency development for this mixed medical-surgical patient population. You will collaborate closely with nursing staff, nurse leaders, and physician partners to foster best practices, enhance clinical skills, and promote high-quality patient outcomes.

Position Summary
The Unit-Based Nurse Educator provides dedicated education and competency support for the 7 East Adult Surgical and Medical-Surgical Unit. This role partners closely with nursing leadership and interdisciplinary teams to support onboarding, precepting, ongoing staff development, and practice initiatives while serving as a clinical and educational resource for frontline nursing staff.
Key Responsibilities

Develop, coordinate, and deliver unit-specific education programs for adult surgical and medical-surgical nursing care

Support onboarding, orientation, and precepting for new nursing hires

Facilitate competency validation and ongoing skills development

Collaborate with nursing leadership and physician partners to identify learning needs and implement educational solutions

Serve as a clinical resource for evidence-based practice, policies, and professional standards

Support quality, safety, and performance improvement initiatives

Promote professional growth, clinical excellence, and a culture of continuous learning

Provide flexibility for occasional nights and weekends to meet unit needs
Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required

Current Registered Nurse license from the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing

Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association required

Strong adult Medical-Surgical nursing experience required
-
Minimum of 3 years of current, relevant nursing experience

Experience in staff education, precepting, or clinical coaching preferred
Skills & Knowledge

Expertise in adult medical-surgical and surgical nursing care, including pre- and post-operative management

Strong communication, teaching, and interpersonal skills

Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams and nursing leadership

Demonstrated ability to mentor engaged RNs and support professional growth

Pay Range:
$38.11 – $98.23
The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
