Job Description:

The Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse at Anna Jaques Hospital is responsible for providing safe, high-quality nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia following surgical and diagnostic procedures. This role focuses on close patient monitoring, effective pain management, timely intervention, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. 

Shift: 20 hours/week – Days

Key Responsibilities:

  • Continuously assess and monitor patients’ vital signs, level of consciousness, airway status, and overall condition during post-anesthesia recovery. Identify and respond promptly to complications or adverse reactions related to anesthesia. 
  • Administer prescribed medications, including pain management and antiemetics, to manage post-operative pain, nausea, and discomfort in accordance with hospital protocols. 
  • Accurately document patient assessments, vital signs, interventions, and responses to treatment. Communicate patient status and any concerns clearly to the healthcare team. 
  • Provide education, reassurance, and clear instructions to patients and families regarding post-operative care, recovery expectations, and discharge planning as appropriate. 
  • Work collaboratively with anesthesiologists, surgeons, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to deliver coordinated and comprehensive patient care. 
  • Respond effectively to emergency situations, including airway compromise, cardiac events, or other post-anesthesia complications, ensuring patient safety at all times. 

Requirements: 

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program with a current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Previous experience in PACU, critical care, or acute care nursing is required. 
  • ACLS and PALS certification 
  • Strong knowledge of post-anesthesia care, pain management, and patient assessment with the ability to recognize and manage complications.

Pay Range:

$35.85 – $77.82

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time.  The pay range for this position is established and governed by the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Employees hired into this position will receive compensation consistent with the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
