Job Description:

Under the Direction of the Lab Department Director, the Pathology Supervisor provides leadership and oversight in the areas of Grossing, Autopsy, Histology, Cytology, Digital Pathology, and Send-out Testing.

Essential Responsibilities:  

  • Maintains effective Workflow and Operations.  Acts as an expert resource within an area of specialty (autopsy, grossing, histology, cytology, digital pathology, send-out testing) 
  • Recommends and prepares Standard Operating Procedures for designated area and provides training in the area of expertise 
  • Oversees scheduling and payroll.  Maintains timely and effective communication of feedback to manager and direct reports 
  • Provides training and leadership to support team 
  • Drives Quality Improvement Initiatives and seeks ways to improve performance and service 
  • Performs and submits all performance assessment documentation to Human Resources on time. 
  • Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities.  Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews.   
  • Assists in planning, monitoring, and/or managing budget in functional area of department 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 5-7 Years’ experience in a high complexity Histology Lab including special stains, Immunohistochemistry, electron microscopy, and immunofluorescence. 
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, such as leading and/or mentoring teams and projects 
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, and Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May be required to produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree from a NAACLS-accredited histology technician program or a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university. 
  • Certified  Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology.

Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate broad and comprehensive knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in complex situations and/or unprecedented situations across multiple functional areas 

Team Work: Ability to lead collaborative teams for larger projects or groups both internal and external to the Medical Center and across functional areas. Results have implications for the management and operations of multiple areas of the organization. 

Customer Service: Ability to lead operational initiatives to meet or exceed customer service standards and expectations in assigned unit(s) and/or across multiple areas in a timely and respectful manner. 

 

Physical Nature of the Job: Medium Work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently.  Job is physical in nature and employee needs to stand and/or move around through the majority of their shift 

 

 

Pay Range:

$48.08 – $57.69

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.  Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
