The Protection Services Management Program is followed to ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors. All shift
activities are coordinated to ensure compliance with department policies: monitoring of officer response, documentation, and adequate
staffing levels. Rapport is established with the hospital community, and they are encouraged to actively participate in the loss prevention
program.

Job Description:
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
1. Is responsible for all duties of Officer-in-Charge
a. Maintains current work schedules to ensure minimum staffing levels.
b. Monitors compliance to department reporting and quitting times,
providing documentation of violations or deviations to the department standard.
c. Participates in and ensures proper incident response, directs
operations, inspects documentation and initiates follow-up investigations.
d. Assures quality of work (patrol procedures, report content, and desk
duties), documenting unsatisfactory performance for review by department
manager.
e. Uses sound judgment to determine a need for manager's intervention.
f. Completes "Summary of OIC Activity" for each shift supervised.
g. Oversees activities of the parking garage cashier to ensure
productivity and compliance with duties and responsibilities. Intervenes, if
necessary, to ensure continuity of service. Documents and reports all
irregularities.
h. Assists with preparation of department payroll and associated
documentation as needed.
2. Assures cost effective operations.
a. Monitors uniforms, radios, keys and other department equipment to ensure
compliance with department standards.
b. Makes recommendations for utilization of department budget to maximize
efficiency.
3. Coordinates all shift activities and operations.
a. Inspects and approves all incident reports for content and form.
b. Coordinates duty assignments, and provides support for delegated
functions, as evident by shift productivity.
c. Reports safety hazards and recommends corrective action, as indicated by
officers documentation.
4. Fosters commitment to professional advancement.
a. Understands standards for protection officer and works with officers
to ensure they are able to meet standards. Recommends corrective action to
ensure appropriate employee performance.
b. Reports exceptional performance of duties by officers, as indicated, based on input from non-departmental sources and personal
observations.
c. Encourages officers to take advantage of all department-sponsored meetings, educational, and training sessions.
d. Assists with preparation and presentation of performance evaluations.
5. Ensures positive public relations demeanor.
a. Maintains positive posture, polite, and respectful communications with
patients, families, visitors, and other employees as indicated by manager's
observations.
b. Communicates with officers, officers in charge, hospital supervisory
personnel, employees, and the nursing supervisor to ensure smooth interaction
and assistance as rendered, as required.
c. Makes decisions, solves problems, and provides effective solutions to
conflicts, to provide efficient service.
Organizational Responsibilities
1. Follows hospital and department policies with special attention to safety,
dress, attendance and punctuality, and display of ID badge. Subscribes to
hospital’s mission statement, code of ethics, and standards of conduct.
2. Handles all work-related information in a confidential manner, as outlined
in Confidentiality Policy B.91. Recognizes and respects each patient’s right to
privacy, and understands that this is protected by statute. Understands that
looking up patient information not needed for job duties is prohibited and is
grounds for immediate dismissal.
3. Treats customers with courtesy and compassion and responds to requests in
a timely manner
4. Works effectively with members of the team so that they meet constantly
changing needs and deliver care that is customer oriented and cost effective.
5. Demonstrates initiative and creativity to continuously improve services,
departmental and interdepartmental processes, and any other activities that affect

6. Plans, organizes, and renders care for (neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult,
geriatric) patients within an assigned area.
7. Performs work responsibilities while staying in compliance with all

Patient Safety
1. When taking a telephone order, writes the order on the Doctor’s Orders, reads
the order back to the MD and document as a TORB.
2. When taking a verbal order, repeats the order back to the MD prior to
implementing the order and documents as a VORB.
3. Uses only accepted abbreviations when documenting in the medical record.
4. Uses two unique patient identifiers prior to treatment or patient transport.
5. Consistently uses sharps devices as designed to prevent injury.
6. Complies with Isolation Guidelines; wears appropriate personal protective
equipment as required by specific patient precautions.
7. Consistently complies with CDC Handwashing Guidelines. Cleans hands
before and after patient contact, or contact with patient environment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
1. Associate's degree in the criminal justice/law enforcement field or equivalent experience
in a security environment.
2. Valid Massachusetts driver's license, with proven safe driving records in all weather
conditions.
3. Good interpersonal and communication skills.
4. Good decision-making ability in stressful/emergency situations.
5. Ability to pass and maintain certification in CPR (first responder – C), and CPI
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Exposure to occasional dangers of assault, and hazards resulting from response to alarms
and other irregularities, including bomb threats, disasters, fire/alarms, etc., or violent
behavior of others
2. Exposure to outdoor temperatures and weather conditions at various time
Pay Range:
$24.00 – $29.26
The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
