Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities:

Liaison Desk

  • Greets everyone entering waiting area
  • Answers telephone using proper etiquette and interacts professionally to meet callers needs
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Utilizes messaging system to communicate with Charge Nurse and other providers as directed
  • Acts as liaison between patients, families, physicians and healthcare providers
  • Accurately enters information into ORM documentation-patient arrival time in waiting area and enter time into holding area
  • Accurately updates and completes patient registration screens and attends all patients into the system, placing planned patients into MOU7 status
  • Communicates any discrepancy in patient information-demographics, date of birth or insurance to preauthorization department
  • Updates contact card with correct phone numbers for family member/significant other waiting
  • Prepares public monitor to display in the OR Waiting Room.  The Board displays patient specific identification numbers and location status
  • Escorts patients and family members to pre-op and post-op bays as directed by charge nurse
  • Assembles charts for next day minor surgery procedures
  • Makes arrival time phone calls to next days patients
  • Maintains patient confidentiality
  • Initiates and cancels call forwarding at beginning and end of shift as per routine
  • Communicates effectively with nursing leadership the arrival of company representatives, planned appointments and students
  • Directs vendors, students and other essential visitors to locker room

Pre-op Holding Area

  • Answers telephone and fields calls for nursing staff
  • Assembles charts for surgical patients
  • Maintains inventory stock of office supplies and currently used paper forms
  • Enters and communicates STAT patient orders as directed by nursing staff
  • Utilizes telephone pagers and messaging system to communicate with providers as directed by nursing staff
  • Access OR pneumatic tube for medications from pharmacy

PACU Area

  • Answers telephone and fields calls for nursing staff
  • Utilizes telephone pagers and messaging system to communicate with providers as directed by nursing staff
  • Enters and communicates STAT patient orders to other departments as directed by nursing staff
  • Initiates and cancels call forwarding under direction of charge nurse
  • Organizes and keeps stock of post operative discharge instruction inventory drawers
  • Assembles charts for surgical patients
  • Stocks and trouble shoots printer
  • Maintains inventory of office supplies and currently used paper forms
  • Take meal orders for and call into kitchen patient's food requests
  • Breakdown patient charts
  • Photocopy necessary paperwork as requested by nursing staff
  • Fax and/or scan documentation as directed by nursing staff
  • Keep calendars and staff phone directories up to date
  • Ready patient charts for out of hospital transfers, including obtaining discs, transfer summaries, etc.
  • Arrange for ambulance and chair car transports
  • Performs errands to other areas of the hospital

Education/Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of medical terminology course.
  • Accurate typing skills at 30 wpm.
  • Possesses organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to concentrate and prioritize in a distracting environment.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking while working at a quick pace with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures.
  • Demonstrated computer skills.
  • Legible handwriting.

Physical/Environmental Requirements

This job requires frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking and lifting over 10 lbs. There will be occasional need for climbing stairs, lifting in excess of 50 – 100 lbs and sitting. Constant use of hearing, sight and speech. Frequent use of smell and touch. Frequent keyboard and telephone use. Constant concentration and problem solving.

 

 

Pay Range:

$17.69 – $29.77

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time.  The pay range for this position is established and governed by the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Employees hired into this position will receive compensation consistent with the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
