Job Description:
Tumor Registrar Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assists all case finding, abstracting and recording of cancer data.
- Responsible for ensuring the collection and reporting of all cancer data to State of Massachusetts in a timeframe directed by the State of Massachusetts.
- Responsible for ensuring the collection and reporting of all cancer data to the National Cancer Database (NCDB) through RCRS (Rapid Cancer Reporting System) in a timeframe directed by the NCDB.
- Maintains confidentiality and protects sensitive data, at all times.
- Assists with data requests, quality assurance and patient care evaluations.
- Abstracts diagnostic procedural and adjuvant treatment information from medical record, infusion and radiation therapy charts.
- Ensures quality and integrity of the database and departmental compliance with external regulations.
- Assigns diagnostic, histology, morphologic, SEER, AJCC and extent of Disease staging schemes.
- Maintains NCRA required educational credits for every 2-year cycle.
Team Lead Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development, coordination, and implementation of new programs.
- Oversees the cancer data system to promote quality care of cancer patients, and ensure compliance with all requirements for an approved cancer program as mandated by the American College of Surgeons, Commission on Cancer.
- Responsible for managing, case-finding, abstracting, and recording cancer data; monthly collection/reporting of cancer data to the state of Massachusetts.
- Collection of follow-up data to be processed, coordination of the cancer conferences, and quarterly Cancer Committee meetings.
- Coordination of the ACOS Survey Application Record (SAR) in preparation for survey, and the coordination/publication of the Annual Cancer Program Report in collaboration with Director of Oncology and Quality Specialist.
- Ensures quality and integrity of the data base and departmental compliance with external regulations.
- Promotes the support systems of the Cancer Center to the community through volunteerism and communication.
- Schedules, coordinates and prepares cases for Tumor Conferences.
- Responsible for CME’s and CEU’s for Tumor Conferences.
- Other duties as required.

Education/Experience Required:
- Three to five years tumor registry experience preferred.
- Proficient in application of automated registry systems
- Demonstrated knowledge of ACOS Commission on Cancer requirements
- Ability to read, write and comprehend at 12th grade level
- Associates degree or higher: Will consider active enrollment in Associates Degree program if expected graduation date is within 6 months of hire.
- Certification by the National Tumor Registrar’s Association (CTR)
- Three to five years tumor registry experience.
- Minimum one year application of automated registry systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of ACOS Commission on cancer requirements.
Registration/Certification:
- Tumor Registrar. Must be actively enrolled in CTR program and able to sit and pass certification exam by National Cancer Registrar’s Association within 18 months of hire.
Physical/Environmental Requirements
This job requires frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking and lifting over 10 lbs. There will be occasional need for climbing stairs, lifting in excess of 50 – 100 lbs and sitting. Constant use of hearing, sight and speech. Frequent use of smell and touch. Frequent keyboard and telephone use. Constant concentration and problem solving.
Pay Range:
$21.27 – $38.03
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. The pay range for this position is established and governed by the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Employees hired into this position will receive compensation consistent with the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
