Department of Surgery is made up of 15 Divisions and over 100 faculty. Will work directly with the DoS Accounting Manager, Finance Director and HMFP Finance staff on a daily/weekly/monthly basis, as well as Operation Directors and Managers as needed. Strong communication skills a must.This position is based in Boston, MA, however, has the ability to work a hybrid work schedule. At a minimum, required to come into the office at least 2x per month to collect financial statements, co-pay information, etc.
Job Description:
Responsible for the financial and accounting arms of the department by ensuring all cash collections, accounts payable, financial reporting, general ledger entries and reconciliations are completed in an accurate and timely fashion.
Department Specific Job Responsibilities:
- Oversees/prepares the monthly input of financial information into the general ledger system, and makes any corrections necessary.
- Assist with daily and monthly financial operational responsibilities
- Reconciliation of weekly co-pay detail from all surgical clinics.
- Ad hoc reporting delegated by DoS CAO, Director of Finance, and Accounting Manager.
Primary Responsibilities:
Accounting
- Prepares the input of financial information, including standard monthly entries, into the general ledger system, and makes any corrections necessary. Inaccurate information could negatively impact financial performance and decision making ability.
- Prepares and submits supporting documentation and work papers for month end close.
- Responsible for the accuracy of journal entries, enabling the production of accurate departmental and physician level revenue and expense statements. Understands the financial impact and appreciates the importance of accuracy.
- Reviews accounting systems and procedures and makes suggestions on how to improve on current methods.
- Reconciles all balance sheet accounts, maintains various schedules, and meets with year-end auditors, providing materials as requested.
Financial Analysis
- Collaborates with executives and managers to develop an annual operating budget. Organizes budget templates and data in a clear and intuitive manner.
- Monitors and reports performance against plans to ensure that contractual, cost, and schedule objectives are met.
- Forecasts and tracks financial results throughout the year to meet budget projections.
- May meet with physicians and/or administrative staff in order to resolve any financial discrepancies.
- Prepares a variety of reports and analyses to monitor progress, productivity and results of the financial activities of the division/department. Prepares special financial studies as needed.
Reporting
- Assists with the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including accrual and cash for month end close.
- Prepares and supports the accurate and timely distribution of both corporate and physician revenue and expense statements.
- Responsible for the collection and reconciliation of all copayment reporting.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Related Field required.
- 1-3 years related work experience required.
- Prior healthcare experience preferred, with EPICOR and/or FRX experience a plus.
- Experience in developing budgets, financial forecasts, and other financial modeling a plus.
- Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft excel including but not limited to the use of pivot tables and charts, advanced formulas, and forecasting and modeling methods is highly preferred.
- Work requires verbal, analytical and interpersonal skills as well as three years of progressive experience, preferably within a health care setting.
- Must be able to work well in a team-focused environment and communicate well with physicians.

- Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
- Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.
- Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.
- Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
Social/Environmental Requirements:
- Work requires close attention to task for work to be accurately completed. Intermittent breaks during the work day do not compromise the work.
- Work routine is fairly consistent, but employee needs to be able to use judgment to respond to events several times a week.
- No substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions
- Health Care Status: NHCW: No patient contact.- Health Care Worker Status may vary by department
Sensory Requirements:
Close work (paperwork, visual examination), Color vision/perception, Visual monotony, Visual clarity feet, Conversation, Monitoring Equipment, Telephone.
Physical Requirements:
Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally in carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling objects. Sitting most of the time, with walking and standing required only occasionally.
This job requires constant sitting, Keyboard use, frequent Power Grasping using one hand, Fine Manipulation using one hand.
