Carries out selected data management and bioinformatics analysis activities for a variety of projects in support of the Department and/or Division.Job Description:
Primary Responsibilities:
- Implements bioinformatic pipelines for the analysis of high throughput data, including RNA-Seq, exome, and whole genome sequencing data (essential)
- Assists in the design, development, and maintenance of databases, repositories, and resources. Designs, implements, and performs data management and quality control procedures as necessary for routine and special projects. (essential)
- Designs and implements novel methods for data analysis and integration (essential)
- Writes scripts and programs for data processing and data acquisition from online repositories. (essential)
- Keeps analysis logs, creates explanatory files (e.g. README files), and follows best practice for the repeatability of analyses (essential)
- Provides reports and creates tabular and graphic summaries of analyses in a form suitable for inclusion in manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed scientific journals as well as for presentation at scientific meetings. (essential)
- Travels to project specific administrative and or national clinical meetings and presents findings. Attends project team meetings as needed (essential)
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- 1-3 years related work experience required.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze next generation sequencing datasets including RNA-Seq, Exome/Whole Genome Sequencing.
- Must be able to apply existing algorithms in the analysis of such data, and if necessary, derive novel programs.
- Experience in R/Bioconductor, bash scripting and working in a Linux/ HPC environment preferred.
- Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.

Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.
Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.
Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
Social/Environmental Requirements:
Work requires periods of close attention to work with out interruption. Concentrated effort of up to 4 hours without break may be required.
Work routine is fairly consistent, but employee needs to be able to use judgment to respond to events several times a week.
No substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
Health Care Status: NHCW: No patient contact. - Health Care Worker Status may vary by department .
Sensory Requirements:
Close work (paperwork, visual examination), Monitor Use, Visual monotony, Visual clarity > 20 feet, Visual clarity <3 feet, Conversation, Monitoring Equipment, Telephone.
Physical Requirements:
Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally in carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling objects. Sitting most of the time, with walking and standing required only occasionally. Requires constant keyboard use, frequent sitting, walking, standing, power grasping using both hands.
