Join our team in the state-of-the-art Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CICU), located in the Klarman Building. We are seeking a highly motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) with a master's in nursing or nursing education to advance nursing practice, lead professional development, and support high-acuity cardiac care.The CICU is a 15-bed unit specializing in the care of patients with acute coronary syndromes, life-threatening arrhythmias, advanced heart failure, and those awaiting heart transplantation. Our team utilizes advanced therapies including IABP, Impella, VA-ECMO, and other mechanical circulatory support devices.
Beyond the day-to-day clinical support, the Nurse Specialist is key in mentoring CICU nurses. From leading onboarding cardiac education to teaching telemetry interpretation classes, they help ensure that nurses have the knowledge and skills to care for high-acuity patients. They also create space for reflection and learning, allowing staff to process challenging cases and build resilience in a demanding environment. The Nurse Specialist is empowered to take on new initiatives that expand the staff’s skillset and raise the level of care provided.
Job Description:
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as a clinical leader and mentor for nursing staff, promoting evidence-based practice and continuous improvement.
Collaborate with cardiologists, intensivists, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.
Design and implement educational programs for staff, patients, and families.
Develop and evaluate nursing policies, protocols, and competencies.
Lead initiatives in quality improvement, research, and professional development.
Support orientation and ongoing training in partnership with unit-based educators and nursing directors.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Nursing or Nursing Education
Current Massachusetts RN license
American Heart Association BLS certification
1–3 years of relevant clinical experience
Proficiency with electronic health records and Microsoft Office applications
Preferred Qualifications:
CNS certification and Massachusetts CNS license
ACLS certification
Experience in cardiac or critical care nursing
Proven leadership in clinical education or program development
