This is a lead pharmacist position located at Winchester Center for Cancer Care servicing both oncology and medical infusion.Performs clinical review and verification of oncology and medical infusion medication orders. Serves as a resource for nursing and physician for drug information and patient specific therapeutic questions. Supervises sterile products and dispensing in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Reports directly to the outpatient oncology pharmacy services manager in close collaboration with the pharmacy infusion services director. Works cooperatively with other Pharmacy Administrators to provide real time support to frontline pharmacists and technicians including problem solving, rollout of new department initiatives, training, application of LEAN principles and assist managers with performance evaluations.

Primary Responsibilities:
1. Practices pharmacy in accordance with laws, rules and regulation of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy, Department of Public Health, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and Drug Enforcement Administration and in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures. Maintains credentials in accordance with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy.
2. Reviews and verifies medication orders with consideration, including but not limited to the following patient specific parameters: diagnosis, weight/body surface area, age, allergies, organ function, laboratory values, medication duplication, drug interactions. Clarifies orders deemed to be inappropriate, incomplete, or otherwise unclear with the prescriber in a timely manner.
3. Provides frontline support for drug distribution, IV admixtures, safety and efficacy of prescribed drug therapy in accordance with the laws and regulations governing pharmacists and the practice of pharmacy as described above, escalating issues to Pharmacy Administration when appropriate. Actively monitors selected quality assurance metrics.
4. Participates in hiring, staff development, scheduling and evaluation of pharmacy personnel. Organizes training, ongoing competency monitoring, and works with employees to accomplish departmental goals and expectations.
5. Participates as a Team representative on Departmental workgroups and committees.
6. Participates in the investigation of medication errors and supports the implementation of corrective actions as needed.
7. Coordinates the maintenance, service, and troubleshooting of local technologies during working hours, including but not limited to; Automated Dispensing Cabinets, Electronic Temperature Monitoring, and USP <797> and <800> compliant cleanroom facilities.
8. Ensures compliance and readiness with regulatory and accreditation bodies; Joint Commission, CMS, DPH, QOPI, USP <797>, USP <795>.
9. May participate in On-Call rotation on behalf of the department.
Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy required. Doctoral degree in Pharmacy preferred.
2. License Massachusetts Pharmacist required.
3. 5-8 years related work experience required in hospital, ambulatory or clinical oncology.
4. Strong analytical skills, defining work problems, and designing a system of procedures to resolve problems.
5. Demonstrated interpersonal and management skills necessary to educate and supervise staff. Independent thinker with good judgment and constant triaging ability. Ability to handle non-routine tasks. Ability to confront difficult issues and to solve problems. Ability to work accurately to meet deadlines and consistently make sound decisions that fall within satisfactory boundaries.
6. Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Advanced degree (MS, MBA, MHA), training (residency or fellowship) or additional certifications.
