The Data Manager/Data abstractor manages and maintains the Cardiac Surgery Databases – Apollo. Trains Perfusionist’s and data abstracters in the use of the Departments
clinical data application (Apollo). Plans and establishes criteria for data collection of the clinical workflow so all patient encounters are
appropriately detailed in the application. Trains and updates clinicians as to data definitions for the STS registry. Continuously monitors data
to ensure that it is formatted correctly, accurate, complete and reflective of the care elements provided. Integrates clinical data from clinicians
from multiple points of service for all cardiac surgery patients: (clinician input at point of care, clinical information system, clinic follow up
forms, 30 day follow up patient phone calls, M&M meetings, and chart review). Using database queries, combines clinical information from
various data sources to document known factors about a patient that assist decision-making on the part of the surgeons, facilitate outcome
analysis and improve quality in general. Oversees the development of custom modules and views by Information Services staff. Collaborates
with Information Services and outside agencies (STS National/ DPH) to assist in the implementation of new data applications, and
customizes them to meet division specific needs. Interacts continuously with clinical staff to optimize data collection applications and
correlate key data fields. Performs frequent detailed patient chart reviews to gather and validate specific clinical data. Identifies incidents of
surgical complications that occurred during hospital stay and extracts and analyzes information. Develops and uses queries to validate and
audit clinical and operational data against administrative databases. Learns and develops new data analysis techniques for cardiac surgery
through site visits, conferences, and sharing analysis methods with data managers/analysts in other organizations. Develops and facilitates
projects related to clinical outcomes as determined by clinical staff, i.e. post op complications, effect of surgical techniques on outcomes,
relationship of risk factors to outcomes. Continuously reviews and monitors data. Identifies and analyzes trends of clinical outcomes and
financial comparisons and presents data and analysis to clinicians. Transmits mandated Cardiac Surgery data to registries. In charge of
contract upkeep and contact list for STS/Apollo databases

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities including but not limited to:

1.    Collects data according to the internal design/external agency specifications including, but not limited to the Critical Care Project IMPACT database, JCAHO Core Measures, BIDMC Process Improvement Initiatives as prioritized by leadership.

2.    Assists in compilation of data into reports for analysis by various departments and committees

3.    Uses query for existing internal and external databases for comparative analysis. Collects data and prepares reports required by defined internal/external specifications for performance measures.

4.    Assists in reviewing individual cases identified by payers as quality improvement opportunities.

5.    Oversee and delegate work to part -time data abstracters.

6.    Work from home however may require in-person time at BI Boston for data day, data meetings and training.

Required Qualifications:

1.    Associate's degree in nursing required.

2.    Licensed Registered Nurse
