The Data Scientist will work on a team focused on machine learning, predictive analytics and related projects, use machine learning frameworks in both development, testing and production environments to create and deploy new technologies This role will perform research and development of advanced analytics solutions in healthcare, create machine learning algorithms to optimize and deliver results by reducing computational complexity and increasing the accuracy of models and improving on business metrics. Interact with subject matter experts to uncover important insights and build on concepts in statistics, optimization, and machine learning to improve patient and provider experiences. This role is responsible for building reliable and scalable production machine learning services which will be integrated with other systems, working on feature engineering, statistical analysis, developing novel ML techniques, understanding classifier performance, and ensuring fit-for-purpose, working cross-functionally across diverse stakeholders, including developers, data engineers and physicians. This position may be assigned to work on special projects, and other job duties, as needed.

Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with business stakeholders to document business problems requiring advanced analytics; develop, evaluate and implement machine learning models to improve business operations. (essential)

  • Collaborates with Software Engineering, Data Engineering and clinical team to structure and normalize data systems and other data enrichment sources. (essential)

  • Works on feature engineering, statistical analysis, develop novel ML techniques, understanding classifier performance, and ensuring fit-for-purpose; creates machine learning algorithms to optimize and deliver results, perform hyper-parameter tuning, and evaluated model performance. (essential)

  • Works with cognitive computing platforms to improve predictions about patient outcomes, focuses on configuring, operationalizing, and reporting on vendor developed models. (essential)

  • Visualizes and interprets data and model results (essential)

  • Uses machine learning frameworks in both development, testing and production environments. (essential)

  • Participates on all parts of the machine learning project lifecycle from dataset curation to model deployment. (essential)

  • Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department and or customer. (essential)

  • Achieves and maintains required certifications (if applicable). (essential)

Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Science, or a related engineering discipline required; Master's degree preferred.

2. 1-3 years related professional experience required in in an engineering role, including industry experience in software engineering and data science.

3. Understanding of Data Structures and Algorithms. Experience designing and developing scalable distributed systems with deep understanding of architectural and design patterns, object-oriented design, modern program languages. Understanding of foundations of Big Data systems and hands-on experience with distributed computational frameworks such as Apache Spark / Apache Beam and NoSQL data stores.

4. Experience with working on large data sets, especially with Spark, Python and Java. Experience with cloud computing platforms, such as AWS or GCP. Experience with Kubernetes.

5. Knowledge of parallelism and concurrency to leverage modern hardware for serving ML models.

6. Working knowledge of Unix/Linux systems. Ability to access, manage, transfer, integrate and analyze complex datasets, especially using SQL. Familiarity with libraries such as pandas, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, Kares. Advanced technical computer skills as required for technical support specific to functional area and related systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Knowledge and experience using basic and intermediate project management tools and techniques.

2. Programming skills with fluency in at least one of Python, Java, Scala, C/C++.

3. Familiar with industry standard software engineering practices and systems knowledge.

4. A proven track record of producing quality deliverables on time, taking ownership and accountability of assignments and demonstrating a strong work ethic.

Written Communications: Ability to summarize and communicate in English moderately complex information in varied written formats to internal and external customers.

Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.

Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.

Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.

Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.

Social/Environmental Requirements:

Work requires close attention to task for work to be accurately completed. Intermittent breaks during the workday do not compromise the work.

Work requires constant response to changing circumstances and using new information to adjust approach and to quickly respond to new needs.

No substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions

Health Care Status:  NHCW: No patient contact.- Health Care Worker Status may vary by department.

Sensory Requirements:

Close work (paperwork, visual examination), Color vision/perception, Visual monotony, Visual clarity <3 feet, Conversation, Telephone.

Physical Requirements:

Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally in carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling objects. Sitting most of the time, with walking and standing required only occasionally. This job requires constant sitting, Keyboard use.
