Responsible for all technical operations of the EEG Laboratory, including routine EEG, video-EEG monitoring, high density EEG, EEG source localization, evoked potentials, and planned development of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). Maintains and repairs neurophysiology acquisition and review machines, clinical databases, clinical workstations, local servers, and other equipment as necessary. Adapts commercially available hardware and software to optimize performance in the clinical environment and develops new software for specific projects. Develops protocols for and performs advanced analysis (e.g. signal processing, source localization) of EEG and associated neuroimaging data.

Job Description:

Diagnoses, troubleshoots, repairs, calibrates, and performs preventive maintenance for all EEG Lab equipment. Works with and understands the operation of pertinent test equipment. Coordinates installation and repair of equipment. Tracks inventory and adheres to Laboratory budget in acquisition and repair of equipment. Prepares and maintains records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance. Works with Information Services to design, implement, maintain and support EEG Laboratory computer resources, including neurophysiology equipment, clinical workstations, software applications, clinical databases, networks, and servers. Utilizes schematics, technical drawings, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals. With Clinical Engineering Department personnel, conducts periodic and routine preventive maintenance inspections on any and all EEG Laboratory equipment. Coordinates and / or assists in the selection, assessment, and installation of capital equipment purchases. Interfaces (as required) with manufacturers on clinical and technical projects and problems. Investigates and tests vendors' products for EEG Laboratory. Develops protocols for and performs advanced analysis (e.g. time-frequency analysis, source reconstruction techniques and connectivity measures) of EEG and associated neuroimaging data. Knows relevant codes and standards for operation of medical devices in the hospital environment. Ensures that equipment management and information services programs meet current accreditation body standards. Manages recall and safety alert programs for medical devices and information security protocols for protected health information. Adapts commercially available hardware and software to optimize performance in the clinical environment. May involve product design, fabrication, customization, integration, modification, and installation of unique and individualized technologies. Develops new software for specific projects as needed. Develops and conducts training and education programs for the safe and effective use of medical equipment and/or technology for clinicians and other lab personnel. Writes documents describing protocols, policies, standards for use, maintenance, and repair of medical equipment. Collaborates with EEG Laboratory staff to design acquisition protocols, data collection, and analysis for EEG studies. Maintains knowledge of advances in the biomedical electronics and information technology fields and equipment changes within the hospital. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies. Participates in the after-hours service coverage (On Call) as required.

Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in electrical or biomedical engineering, computer science, or related discipline required. Master's degree preferred.

2. 5-8 years related work experience required. Basic knowledge of mechanics, optics, physiology, and medical terminology.

3. Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience in advanced signal processing or source localization techniques, data analysis tools (e.g. MATLAB), and C or C++ programming experience is strongly desired.

2. Experience with EEG, high density EEG or MEG.
