Job Summary: Reporting to the Director of Engineering and Infrastructure, the Facilities Life Safety Specialist is responsible for documenting and maintaining above ceiling compliance inspections related to maintenance operations, clinical engineering, IT and construction projects. The areas of responsibility are campus wide with a concentration of inpatient areas.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for implementing the above ceiling work permit program. Assists with program rollout, implementation and improvement.
2. Educate both in-house stakeholders and construction contractors related to proper/compliance with fire wall compartmentation requirements, available fire stop system features and limitations, and manufacturer technical documents and resources.
3. Conducts general life safety inspections activities include but not limited to exit signage, emergency lighting, egress and door requirements.
4. Conducts spot check inspections, audits, and an annual review of the program.
5. Assists the Facilities and Maintenance Operations departments by coordinating life safety requirements and project closeout activities.
6. Limited off-shift and weekend coverage may be necessary.

Required Qualifications:

1. High School diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
2. 0-1 years related work experience required.
3. Experience required through any of the following areas: Facilities maintenance and building trades.
4. General understanding of life safety systems required.
5. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Knowledge of City, State, and Federal regulations including OSHA, NFPA, EPA, TJC, ISD, and MWRA preferred.
2. Work experience in a hospital environment preferred.
3. Knowledge of asbestos in building materials and plan reading preferred.

7. Team Work: Ability to interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and/or external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information or deliver services.
8. Customer Service: Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude and respond to requests in a timely and respectful manner.

Physical Nature of the Job:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus
