Working closely with the Resource Nurses in both the admitting area and the procedure area, organizes and prioritizes the daily schedule and throughput of patients in the GI general procedure unit. Carries out the unit protocol for pre and post preparation for endoscopic procedures.Job Description:
Primary Responsibilities:
- Organizes and prioritizes the daily schedule and throughput of patients in procedure rooms of the GI general procedure unit by using the whiteboard to assign physicians to their rooms and to map out where all procedures for each physician will take place based on room, doctor, and nurse availability. - Places appropriate endoscopes in procedure rooms, cleans and sets up room for next case. (essential)
- Assists nursing staff in selected tasks to support functions of the unit. (essential)
- Maintains equipment in proper working order, keeps appropriate inventory of supplies for daily operation of busy endoscopic unit. Carries out protocol for infection control in maintenance of equipment and performance of duties. (essential)
- Enters patient data into computer. Escorts patients when needed. (essential)
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED required. Vocational or Technical training preferred.
- 1-3 years related work experience required.
- Strong organizational skills Ability to prioritize work processes.
- Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Healthcare experience Experience in ambulatory procedural area

Problem Solving:Ability to address problems that are varied, requiring analysis or interpretation of the situation using direct observation, knowledge and skills based on general precedents.
Independence of Action:Ability to follow precedents and procedures. May set priorities and organize work within general guidelines. Seeks assistance when confronted with difficult and/or unpredictable situations. Work progress is monitored by supervisor/manager.
Written Communications: Ability to read, and write in English in order to understand basic safety instructions and take direction from supervisors; communicate effectively with patients, families and other medical center staff; and respond to basic questions.
Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.
Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.
Customer Service: Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude and respond to requests in a timely and respectful manner.
Age based Competencies:Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 years, Elderly: 60 - over.
Social/Environmental Requirements:
Work requires periods of close attention to work with out interruption. Concentrated effort of up to 4 hours without break may be required.
Work is fairly routine from day to day. Employee follows a set pattern with any changes being communicated by supervisor.
Potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions
- Daily: Potential exposure to infectious diseases and/or bloodborne pathogens.
- Several times a month: Potential exposure to infectious diseases and/or airborne pathogens.
Health Care Status: HCW1: Regular, day-to-day contact; both face-to-face and hands-on (having close contact within three feet for at least five minutes). Examples: physicians, clinical nurses, phlebotomist, medical assistants, PFT tech, and x-ray tech.-Health Care Worker Status may vary by department
Sensory Requirements:
Close work (paperwork, visual examination), Monitor Use, Visual monotony, Visual clarity > 20 feet, Visual clarity <3 feet, Conversation, Monitoring Equipment, Telephone, Background Noise.
Physical Requirements:
Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Job is physical in nature and employee needs to stand and/or move around through the majority of their shift.
This job requires constant walking, standing, Endurance-working up to 3-4 hours without a break,frequent Pushing items weighing up to 10 lbs, Pushing items weighing up to 25 lbs, Pushing items weighing up to 50 lbs, Pushing items weighing up to or more than 100 lbs, Push a wheelchair or wheeled bed containing a patient weighing up to 250 pounds, with assistance.There may be occasional Pull up and/or reposition patient weighing up to 100 pounds without assistance.Rarely there may be Pull up and/or reposition patient weighing up to 250 pounds with assistance.
