Under the general supervision of Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) leadership, the Infection Prevention & Control Co-op position assists the IPC team with daily surveillance, public health reporting, and project implementation. This position is designed for a student currently enrolled in a co-operative education program in the Health Sciences, Nursing, or Pre-Health (e.g., pre-med) and is seeking additional hands-on experience in infection prevention and healthcare operations.

Job Description:

Job Responsibilities:
1)    Perform hand hygiene direct observation across all inpatient care units, and other settings as directed by IPC leadership. Collect hand hygiene data with electronic software (e.g., REDCap). (essential)
2)    Perform surveillance for antimicrobial-resistant organisms; interface with hospital staff regarding isolation precautions, as needed. (essential)
3)    Assist in the reporting of communicable diseases to the Department of Public Health (essential). 
4)    Assist IPC team in quality improvement activities related to hand hygiene, as needed. (essential)
5)    Assist with collection, analysis, and distribution of infection prevention data for both reporting and special projects, as determined by IPC leadership.
6)    Participate in multidisciplinary workgroup or task forces requiring IPC input; tasks include literature review, and data collection and analysis for presentation.
7)    Participate in research and quality improvement projects within the division, as desired.
8)    Other duties as assigned, as determined by IPC leadership.

Qualifications:
1.    High School Diploma or GED required. Enrolled in a cooperative education program at a college/university. 
2.    Vocational or Technical training in Health Sciences, Nursing, or Pre-health (e.g., Pre-med) required.
3.    0-1 years of work experience preferred .
4.    Basic skills and familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite applications and/or other web-based applications (e.g., REDCap) required.
5.    Detail oriented, effective communicator with analytical abilities and strong interpersonal skills.
6.     Experience in the use of electronic health records, particularly Epic, preferred.
